GM offers $1,000 E85/gas card with purchase of FlexFuel vehicle

General Motors is offering a $1,000 fuel card with the purchase of a 2006 or 2007 Chevy or GMC FlexFuel vehicle. The promotion is only available in the Chicago and Minneapolis-St. Paul markets between May 2nd and July 31st and is good with the purchase of an FFV Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche, Sierra, Silverado, Impala or Monte Carlo. The fuel card is good at participating fuel stations in both markets that offer both gas and E85.
GreenCarCongress has broken down how far $1,000 in fuel will go with the purchase of a FlexFuel Tahoe. A new Tahoe owner can expect to drive 5,800 miles on GM’s dime if he or she fills up with gas and only 5,400 miles if E85 is chosen. The Tahoe returns 17 mpg on regular gas, a figure that drops to 13 mpg on E85.

Forget Ethanol
Forget Hybrids
Just give me my gosh darn diesels and I'll be happy!
I mean come on, the UK Civic returns good 0-60 times, is 6 speed, and is reliable + returns 45 mpg...
BRING IT OVER TO THE STATES

I bet you this "green congress" or whatever it is never did any hybrid "break down". Tell us sir, how much energy ius spent creating a hybrid as per a regular car? And where does the battery waste go?
And what effect do the swollen heads of hybrid drivers have on gas mileage?
REAL ENVIRONMENTALISTS WOULD MOVE TO A CITY AND WALK, BIKE AND TAKE PUBLIC TRANSPORT.
But don't hold your breath. "Progressive" environmentalists are into "white flight" too. Let's flee the inner city, live in a huge, wasteful house, and buy a hybrid so everybody can look at me!!!
Go here and see some enviro-houses:

"The promotion is only available in the Chicago and Minneapolis-St. Paul markets"
It's a good thing, because if it was available in Oregon, people would be pissed to drive 2,400 miles to fill up :)

#2, "real" environmentalists would move to the country and live off the land.

The math is wrong. 13 MPG is 77 % of 17 MPG. That actually sounds a little high for E85 but I'll accept the numbers. However, 77% of 5,800 miles is 4435 miles. The stated number is, gulp, 1000 miles off.

The 4435 number only works out if you assume E85 costs the same as gas. It could very well be that it's slightly cheaper to make up the difference.

I hear you Cody. I would very much like to see the new 2.0 liter diesel found in the European market VW's. I believe it returns damn damn near 50mpg in a Golf. We still get the old 1.9 I believe.
Also, re. No. 2...as far as "swolen heads" go, you are probably they type who drives an F-350 to go to work in (work being some stupid desk job licking stamps), huh? That or an Excursion... Listen, fool, if someone WANTS to pay extra to feel good, and actually ACCOMPLISHES a little good as well...then there is no skin off your back, now is there?. So back off asshole. How in the hell anyone can become angry over a small Prius is beyond me. It's weak, dude...if you are really threatened by a Prius or Accord, then you ought to grow a spine. Nobody is going to change this planet on a dime, so why in the hell would you expect EVERYTHING to tow the line? Every bit helps, but bitching and complaining like a GD fool helps nobody. In fact, it only serves to create hostility...which apparently you seem to get off on.
Re. GM's E-85 effort...this is pathetic. Why? Because it has always been a technical solution...in otherwords, GM has done absolutely NOTHING!! Yellow and Green trucks is not serious engineering, nor is it serious investment in new technologies. It's called "Marketing". GM sees they are getting their clocks cleaned in the hybrid/eco market, and tah-dah..."Wait, we TOO have something!! Check it out folks, it burns alcohol!!". GM is the biggest "has-been" company on this planet. They have been usurped by third-world countries and continue to loose marketshare in their own home country. They will still be beating their own drum when they breathe their last dying breath. Go tiger, go!!!
And again, back to the wonderful diesel products sold abroad...well, guess WHO killed one mighty fine line of small diesels (Isuzu)??? Ans, Your friendly "ECO" GM!! Losers! Keep up the 7-9% sales drops each month there GM...you're doing a splendid job.

And Just LOOK at that size of that GD truck. ECO??? Eco as in being "humble"? ..."resourceful"?..."CONCERNED"???
You tell me what a GD ridiculous sight that truck is...and how it complete contradicts everythign they (GM) are trying to force-feed the public.
Open Wide and say "AHHHH". Once you swallow this load of crap you can go back to watching Homer Simpson (that's the typical non-thinking, accept everythng which "we" feed you type of person they are trying to market to).

Rastus...
You knock somebody else for not liking those retarded battery powered cars yet you can open your mouth and flap your jaws about GM and how they are a bunch of crap? You cant have your cake and eat it too...everybody is allowd an opinion and you dont see me posting here about your undereducated about this subject matter and make no sense at all...anything to bash GM. Get a life!He likes big f-350 and you like little Prius cars...no need for all that nonsense you just wrote. Keep it clean and back up your words next time.

Not bad at all. I hope that it will help GM to boost sale. Ford, GM, are losing market to Honda, Toyota and The General Motors saw a decline in their sales in April. In April The General Motors observed a 7% decline (http://asianbiz.blogspot.com/2006/05/ford-gm-are-losing-market-to-honda.html) in their sales. I think GM is thinking of bounce back some of its sales with this move.

In related news, I'm giving away a gift card wirth 100 strips of gold pressed latinum redeemable at your nearest starbase.
GMs E85 rhetoric is growing more insulting by the day, or maybe it's getting on my nerves the more I hear it.
There is ONE public E85 station in the ENTIRE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, that's right, the #1 car market in the world, also the most tree hugginly environmentally conscious state in the U.S. and there is only a single place where one could fill up their Tahoe with E85.
Within 5 years it will likely be easier to find a hydrogen filling station than an E85 station.
Face facts, It's not likely that even 0.001% of the fuel burned in these "flex fuel" vehicles is anything but ordinary gasoline.
