Fiat posted its second consecutive quarterly profit Wednesday, handily beating analysts' predictions. As the company's painful restructuring begins to pay dividends, the company is increasingly bullish about its prospects - so much so that this quarter's results prompted the company to double its 2006 profit forecast for Fiat group's automotive unit.

Fiat group automotive brands include Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Ferrari and Maserati.

Investors have happily pushed Fiat's stock price to valuations well beyond many of its competitors, and the company's market capitalization is now greater than Ford's.
