As time goes on and we collect more spy snaps of the 2008 Dodge Avenger that will replace the hapless Stratus, it becomes increasingly evident that the most distinctive design cues of the larger Dodge Challenger will be passed on to that sedan’s FWD baby bro’. From these spy photos posted on Inside Line we can clearly see upturned headlights a la the Charger and the larger sedan’s signature C-pillar that hiding behind some substantial camo.
When the Avenger debuts later this year it is expected to compete with a 250-hp 3.5L V6 in R/T trim, though a smaller 2.7L V6 and DaimlerChrysler’s 2.4L World Engine four-cylinder will also be offered. Dodge is even including a six-speed auto to make sure the Avenger doesn’t start life two steps behind the class leaders.

#19 It not going to appeal to just your age of people.

Let me correct you: 06 Gallant was penned by Pacifica Design Studio out here in Carlsbad. Think Gallant with a Charger design cues and walla AVENGER.

I had one of our croppers take the EVO X and add the Charger fascia that cause a great stir with the Corporate board of Chrysler. Why? Avenger and the Project Rebel was an inhouse Chrysler & Mitsubushi designs.

The headlights look more like the 300. But has the "Avenger" name officially been confirmed?

i really think it is ignorant and stupid to say the charger is ugly. espeially since most of you guys probably drive accords (in my opinion the ugliest car on the road). not to mention the brick on wheels ridgeline. DCX is making something happen with a smaller budget. while GM puts out a cobalt that rides worse than the old Neon. not much different from the inferior cavalier. i am so glad i did not jump on the DCX bashing bandwagon, and oh yea...that old intrepid had around 50 hp more than the new Ford 500. and Dodge's 2.7 makes the same hp as GM's gas-hog 3.8, now that is something i find hilarious and about the new camaro...i want to drive a car, not an airplain. flat fugly compared to the Challenger or even Mustang

The title of the article "2008 Dodge Avenger aiming to steal Fusion, Camry buyers" is in itself... hilarious.

.. because the Avenger buyer is the same type of person who cross shops Toyota Camrys.

Eh. I'm not too sure how i feel about a mini-charger. I like that my car is relatively unique.

Off topic: - In addition, as the proud owner of a Hemi Charger, I would have to disagree concerning the looks of the car. I've had mine for about 6 months and i still get (positive, mind you!) comments from people about my car. And i personally have no complaints about a large 4 door car with a strong engine that looks great and is practical for running 4 grown adults around...

Man, you guys bag on a real car like the hemi powered, RWD Charger that can haul 5 grown people in total comfort yet still pull down 14 second 1/4's, all the while looking mean as hell, then go on and on about how neato the new Camry and Sonata are. Maybe the name of Autoblog should be changed to "Better Homes and Auto's".

You're all a bunch of Troglodytes.

(highlight, cut, go to dictionary.com and paste, then continue)

Avenger is a more dynamic name than Stratus, the new design looks better than the current one even partially hidden, and the new hardware will outperform the older stuff hands down.

Give it up to progress, people. If the old model was a real benchmark, I might be able to take all this whining, but it wasn't, so get over it.

Should have kept it a two door...like the original Avenger...
whats wrong with the car being 4 door? its a small sedan like a fusion or camry? or those cars considered grocery getters too because they have four doors? if i seem to recall...the stratus came in a 2-door AND 4-door variety and they slowed down production on the 2-door because...it wasnt selling.
Seriously what is with you guys and your fascination for 2-door cars? yeah they're nice..but not at all very practical to most people

This Avenger-Stratus-Re-Avengered Dodge Avenger is so hilarious. You took a potential ass-kickin' car body and put a sorry engine in it. Nobody bought it so you cancelled it and gave the design cues to the Stratus, thus turning it into a Stratus. Now that your wheel well battery holder of a car is loosing in sales, you want to turn it back into an Avenger? So lame. And added is the grocery getter option with the extra two doors....better redeem yourself with a sporty feature.

The real truth is women are running Dodge or the guys wives are. Whats next, the four door road runner? Screw the retro thing, how 'bout a four door Viper? It doesn't help that it took over ten years to listen to Avenger fans about power options with manual drive.
