Esquire magazine picks its '10 Most Awesome Autos'
As Esquire magazine appears to have forgotten to post its "10 Most Awesome Autos" feature from its May issue online, Terry Box at the Dallas Morning News has been kind enough to accommodate list fanatics. The men's magazine actually made a pretty good show of picking its 10 favorite cars under $50,000. No defining criteria other than price and editorial opinion appears to have been employed, so take these for whatever they're worth. In no particular order and without further delay, the envelope, please ...
- Lotus Elise ($42,990):
- Chevrolet Corvette ($44,490)
- Mazda 6 ($19,670)
- Infiniti G35 coupe ($33,200)
- Ford F-150 ($19,640 to $37,005)
- Audi A3 3.2 DSG ($34,700)
- Subaru Legacy GT ($28,795)
- BMW 3-Series ($30,900 to $44,900)
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution ($29,149)
- Chrysler 300C SRT8 ($42,695)
So, did Esquire get it right, or is it missing something?

I wouldn't be ashamed to have any if those vehicles! Thou with the Lancer Evo I would pass on the Subaru and maybe replace it with a Mustang or better yet the Shelby GT500!!! All in all, they did pretty good.

Mazda 6!?!? Are you joking me? Thats the worst of the Japanese sedans right now. The new camry is "more awesome!"

#2, Esquire is a men's magazine, and in a certain aspect, all of those car are very sporty or appeal to mostly men. I wouldn't consider the new Camry sporty at all, it's rather bland. The Mazda 6 and Camry appeal to different markets, the Mazda 6 appeals to the sportier younger crowds while the Camry appeals to everyday driving crowd, somewhat boring, and Camry is more of a family sedan.

if it was the list of all the cars in my garage I can't say I'd complain. a good range. A guy blasted by me on a country road in an Elise and he had a huge grin on his face. That thing seems like it would be fun.

paul, i dunno about camry, that car is pretty white bread... its a good car, but its white bread. while the 6 is not the best car in the segment, its probably the most exciting midsize sedan from japan. mazdaspeed 6 is probably the one of the fastest AND best handling midsize car from japan.

I agree with most of the list. NO MUSTANG really kind of gets me mad seeing it is an American icon for cars. A Subaru legacy G.T Come on now, a Mustang V8 is the same price and is a HELL of alot nicer and faster.

No Porsches? That's enough to totally discredit their list for me.

What's up with the Mazda 6 and the Beamer?!?!?!?!
Don't mind that there aren't any Porsches but it sucks they didn't do something cool like Mustang or AM V8 :-S

it actually looks like a fair list.
Maybe there isnt porsches or ferraris, but every ferrari under $50,000... it just dont work fo everyone.
Is that all that lists in which women vote for the best car.
All in here now that Alfa Romeo is a great brand, but it isnt the best cra in the world; it is just what your eyes like... including a nice price rate.

Dude I blow by Mustangs all day long in my Outback XT (same as Legacy GT). It is a total sleeper car. And I haven't even chipped it yet - you can get 290 hp out of the Subie (4 cyl !) just by reprogramming the ECU. You get phenomenal grip out of the AWD and when the turbo kicks in at 3000 rpm, watch out!! Not to mention that it is a well built car, quiet inside, no squeaks or rattles, unique looks, and will last a long time.

As a Mitsu fan I am pleased (though not surprised) to see the Evo up there on the list. As far as bang for your buck, you just can't beat it. But as for feeding my inner teenager, that Lotus is very very sexy.
/Waitin for the Concept X
//Then there will be no escapin the Mitsu monster.
