Fake Ferraris flowing out of China?

A few Autoblog readers have sent us a link to this video news report about fake Ferraris being produced in China. The European Union is starting to get really miffed about the influx of counterfeit items, like Ferraris, and is considering upping the punishment for offenders to four years in prison and a 300,000 Euro fine. That's about $378,000, enough to buy yourself a real Ferrari.
We’re not quite sure which Ferrari the news piece is referring to, so kudos to whichever reader can accurately tell the rest of us which model the Italian automaker only produced six examples.

If the rest of the countries are crazy enough to let the Chinese run roughshod over the world with their illegal trade practices, counterfeiting, slave labor and dumping on every nation on the face of the earth, they deserve what they are getting.
Our elected officials should have their butts kicked for allowing China to dump in this country. Unfortunately most of our officials are only interested on two things, filling their pockets and getting re-elected.

Punishment? Who are they going to punish, you'll never catch the manufactures, and punishing the consumers is stupid. Hell, I can get a fake Lambo or Ferrari for 45K here in the states, and I'm not talking stretched Fieros...

I believe Ferrari only made six F50 GTs. Is that the answer you were looking for?

I think the "six produced" maybe somewhat of a red herring. I'm certainly no Ferrari expert, but I can't find anything with a run of six that looks like this.
I blew up a screen capture of the photo the gentleman is holding, and to me it looks like a 60's P racer. Maybe a 330 p4 or a 412p.
From what I can tell from the picture, the car has low, enclosed headlights. It also has a very low, relatively small, elongated oval front grill, with a vertical splitter right down the center. It seems to have winglets at the ends of the front splitter too.
It also doesn't appear to have a road car like cockpit. More like a bubble like enclosure..
These things all point to those fantastic Ferrari sportcars from the late 60's. Of course there is no numbering on this car, but I assume prospective buyers would get their choice. ;-)
Just a quick guess, after looking into it for a few minutes.

When a 747 plows into a schoolyard - thats when the USA will start worrying about counterfit parts.

Wasn't it the Ferrari 365 GTB Daytona Spyder Most people will remember it as the black Ferarri convertible in Miami Vice (which was in fact a replica kit)that Ferrari only made 6 of? There's lots of replica kits available from all over the world not just China

The actual cloned Ferrari was a 330P4 that happened to sign a legendary winning streak (1-2-3) in the sport-prototypes class back in the late sixties.
Maybe the recent remake of GT40s triggered the chinese to make a replica before "the real McCoy" did ...

I don't know the answer, but I'm pretty sure there were more than 6 Daytona Spyders built. Same goes for the F50, of which about 200 exist.
If I were Ferrari, I wouldn't worry too much. Driving a Ferrari replica is like driving a Fiero with a Ferrari bodykit. It ain't the real thing! And anybody who can afford a real Ferrari, is likely to buy one and enjoy the genuine product with its excellent handling on top of the looks, as opposed to a replica which has only the looks, but no handling.

The chinese version is better and cheaper. ferrari is anrgy because They can no longer Rob money from their Customers. While the Customers can buy The chinese Version least than 1/2 of the RRP.

dudes:
You guys should do more research before leaving your comments! The Ferrari P4 replica that was found in China was imported from UK! and the European whatever CEO idiot who said it was made in China felt very embarrasing about this fact, and did apologize to Chinese!
In addition, even if ..........(I mean even if) it was made in China, It is called "KIT CAR", dudes!!! The Kit Car industry is very popular worldwide, specially in North America. Kit Car builders make replicas of every cars they like, from Cobra, Super 7, to Porsche and Ferrari !!! Search Kit Cars on GOOGLE, dudes!!
