Nissan Qashqai caught testing in Germany
The Nissan Qashqai is a crossover SUV
concept that debuted at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show, and the author of the linked article is sure beyond a shadow of a
doubt that spy pics of a production version testing in Germany prove that Nissan is ready to bow out of the passenger
car business in Europe. Um... OK. While we seriously doubt that credibility of the author’s claim, it does appear
Nissan is readying this RAV4-sized ute for the European market. The requisite smattering of four-cylinder petrol and
diesel powerplants are expected to power the Qashqai and a public unveiling of the production version may happen at the
2007 Geneva show.[Source: WorldCarFans]

Could that be the Infiniti CX25/35 they announced over a year ago?

If they don't bring it (and/or the X-Trail and Cube) to the US ASAP they should have their heads examined. The Xterra gets 16-21 mpg. At a time when gas will likely hit $4 a gallon by the end of the summer they need to get some economical stuff online quickly to compete with RAV4, CR-V and Element. Versa & Sentra is a start.

I pity ANY motor news outlet that gives this person credence, much less credentials.
Considering the "fact" that Jeep seems to be going the opposite way, that is adding more car-like vehicles to it's line-up to expand it's market share, it seems unlikely that Nissan...a MUCH larger company than Jeep, would walk away from the "normal" car market.
I have to wonder if we will see a re-emergence of cars with some kind of AWD system as an option like we did in the '80s. Remember, back then even Ford's lowly Tempo 4 door sedan had the option for a few years of AWD. As it is, many makers of powerful sedans are using currently using AWD as a form of traction control.

I dont know how good of a car this will be but the name's gotta go. I would suggest going with "Mediocra", according to Nissan's apparent naming convention.

Count on Nissan North America to be 5 years behind everyone else on anything important and it's not as if there weren't some fine vehicles to choose from that are already on the road in Japan. I think Mr. Goshen is spending to much time admiring himself in the mirror lately.

I hope for Nissan that this is not another rebadged Renault that will further destroy their reliability record in Europe.
