Cadillacs and Saabs get recalled by NHTSA
Yesterday, the National Highway Transportation
Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued two recalls, one for Cadillac and the second for Saab:- The Cadillac recall, which affects the 2005 model year SRX SUV and STS sedan, points to an incorrect welding of the toe links in the rear suspension. The problem could potentially cause a crash. 23,000 Cadillacs may have been affected.
- The Saab recall affects the 2001 Saab 9-3 (pictured). The NHTSA bulletin states that
fuel lines and fittings in the vehicle were damaged during manufacturing. 11,000 vehicles may have been affected.

Has anyone heard of a potential recall for the so called "Quiet Steel"? Apparently GM uses this stuff on all their cars, and the steel was not tested for corrosion. The steel sheets consist of two thinner sheets seperated by an elastic layer, and the steel is only galvanized on the outside the layers.
So what I have heard has been happening is at various weld locations, the steel starts rusting on the inside, and there are several CTS's that had to be bought back due to this, since it covers underbody panels that can not be replaced.
Man if this hits the fan, GM will go bankrupt for sure.

Tranny problem causing you to loose power momentarily vs. incorrect suspension welding in the rear causing you to suddenly veer off the road. Hmmmm...no comment.

Those recall numbers don't seem too bad and at least they don't say that anybody's actually crashed yet.
Also, for once it'd be nice if this didn't turn into some stupid GM vs Toyota flame fest.
Heck, I drive a Toyota but I own GM stocks, but I was seriously considering a Chevy too when I was car shopping. Why is it that there's all these people who feel that there has to be some insane loyalty you have to have to a car company?

Those recall numbers are bad- 23,000 vehicles, and 11,000 vehicles. Numbers are all relative, so try this, thats more than the number of Solstice's produced in a year.
But then if your a GM fan, those numbers probably seem okay, since you are used recalls in the 100,000 unit range.

How come when Toyota announce a Recall/customer service call/etc this page is awash with people attacking Toyota's reputation for reliablity? GM announces some goverment enforced recalls and virtually no-one bats an eyelid! All it does is lessens the credence of domestic fanboys opinion when they have a credible and justified point against Toyota!

Toyota LoverUK,
I think you got it turned around, you get a lot more excitment when GM posts a recall. Actaully it doesn't matter what the post is about, it will soon turn into a GM suck bashing session.

Toyota doesn't have recalls, they call them service advisories.......I love Toyota's but hate the local
dealership...don't want to drive 50 miles to the nearest alternative dealership...so no more Toyotas.

BOY...I REMEMBER BACK IN THE 70S AND 80S WHEN TOYOTA AND HONDA TRIED TO MAKE CARS LAST MORE THAT A YEAR WITHOUT RUSTING OUT. I WOULD NOT BUY ONE TODAY. THEY MIGHT LAST LONGER THAN A YEAR...I KNOW THEY ARE BUILT IN THE U.S. BUT WAIT UNTILL YOU NEED A TRANNY OR REPLACEMENT ENGINE THAT IS MADE OVER THERE OR A AIR CONDITIONING UNIT...YOU WILL BE WASTING YOUR AMERICAN MONEY AGAIN.....OH I FORGOT ABOUT MAZDA TRUCKS...WHAT A JOKE...I THOUGHT THE PINTO WAS BAD...
