Video of SLK with SLR motor embarassing Enzo

We’re sure all of you remember the Mercedes Benz SLK coupe with an SLR engine we posted on a while back. We were told the owner was Mid-Eastern rally champion Mohamed Bin Sulayem, and a video has surfaced in which the Franken-coupe does battle with a Ferrari Enzo on what appears to be a not-too-well-patrolled thoroughfare in Dubai. The winner in such a contest should be fairly obvious, although you make the call whether both vehicles were going all out.
[Thanks Drakonen for the tip!]

How embarassing for Enzo owners. You spent a million dollars on a car and got totally owned by a car only costing hundres of thousands. That's like a Corvette getting smoked by a Kia.

Old news. This has been on the video sites for at least 2 weeks. Plus the poster (either on Google Video or StreetFire.net, can't remember which) wrote a byline which basically states 'I knew I couldn't take him, but I wanted to see how much difference there was between our cars'.

This comes right back down to "who cares".
Same thing as a mega-turbo Supra beating a 355 on the highway. In the end, you've got a modified Toyota and they have a 355. Have fun living your Fast and Furious life.
An Enzo is a beautiful and fantastic car, and anyone who gets to drive one (let alone own one) is exceptionally lucky.

What would happen with a straight up slr vs the enzo?

Straight line performance is one thing. A kit dragster could smoke the Enzo in a straight line .. this only matters if your driving experience only conisists of going in a sraight line in a hurry.
Now, lets see the two on a track.

That is pretty insane...
But yea I would like to see those two on a track. The Enzo would definitely win...

Stefan Eriksson was obviously the driver of the enzo. this was probably the race had before he crashed into a telephone pole. LOL

Probably could beat the Enzo in this in many situations and its only the first revision:

More specs
0-60 ~ 3.0 seconds
Standing quarter mile ~11.5 seconds
Range >100 miles in urban use
Charger: onboard conductive. Input 100-250V 50 or 60 Hz. Current: user adjustable up to 80A
Energy consumption 200 WHr/mile in urban use, equivalent to 170 mpg (33,705 WHr/gallon)
equal to over 3 times better mpg than a Toyota Prius and its a zero emission vehicle
No warm up time.
No start-up performance lag.
Flat torque curve: same very high torque at 0RPM as at 6,000 RPM = mind boggling performance (above 6,000 RPM, the torque falls but the power is more or less constant. Rpm limit is 13,300).
No transmission (only one gear!)
No need to use brakes in normal driving: regenerative braking load is plenty to handle even "hard" braking needs.

Yep, this is meaningless. I guess it's a fun exercise, but I don't believe the Enzo was built to be a drag racer. There are cheaper ways to go fast in a straight line. The Enzo is the toughest guy in the bar and people like to start fights.

An electric motor Ariel Atom. Yes very cool. I would love to own one. But no variable transmission means that it would top out at around 100 mph!
High torque output doesn't necessarily mean high top speed. That's what gears are for.

I can't believe all the comments on here assume this is legitimate. Doesn't anyone here drag race?
Never trust a drag racer without a time slip. Especially if he's from a culture where you have to barter daily (tell lies) to survive.

Okay, so this Wrightspeed deal can go straight... very quickly - but can it turn? And it can only do it for 100 - 150 miles - so after about 2 hours or so of club racing it's done until you recharge it. How long does it take to recharge?
Sounds like the same problem I used to have with remote control cars...

I agree in this falls under the 'who cares' catagory. Both cars are very fast, one is faster than the other. But seriously, it does not take much to outrun an Enzo in a straight line.
Take a RWD or AWD car, put on big turbo(s), maybe some nitrous to help, and voila. 130mph trap speeds is not that impressive for a drag car. I've seen street driven Supras, Vipers, Vettes, and EVOs even, that all trap faster than the Enzo. Heck, I have a friend with a 96 Nissan 200sx, that has maybe $5k into the motor, and he trapped 128mph.
The Enzo is a technological marvel, not a drag car.

If you pause the video right when they show the Enzo's speedo, you see that he's only going about 145 with the tach barely above 6k in 5th. This is not an Enzo being driven to its fullest capacity.
Probably got a little scared driving this car at that speed. ;)

The Enzo was stroking... I'd call that running at about 75% of balls out. Anybody whose heard a high strung Ferrari engine like the one in the Enzo knows that one was not being wrung out by any stretch.
I'd also have to talk to the Benz dude for hard braking at 175 when I'm closing on him.

I agree with the previous statements. Though this SLK beat the Enzo, its no big surprise. If this were taken on a track, the Enzo would wipe the floor with the SLK. Seeing that the SLR engine is probably pretty heavy, the SLK is gonna be front heavy, Front Heavy means understeerrrrrr on the track. But hey, going straight is fun right? :D

The Enzo was not even close to redlining on any of the shifts. The driver was short-shifting the hell out of it. Like someone else mentioned, you can hear that it's not tits-out anywhere in the video.

WillDaThrill => There is no production or kit Kia to smoke a Corvette. What you meant to say is it's like a SL500 (0-60 5.2sec $92,900) being smoked by a Corvette Z06 (0-60 3.7sec $45,000). Now that's hot!

Whoever is driving that enzo needs to take a couple of years worth of driving lessons! you hear short shifting ALL over the place! It's shameful... give that same car to a Ferrari test driver, see if that Mini Booboo can even eclipse it... Jeeez.. those Arabs and their stupid ideas!
