As we're not exactly pulling down Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Cribs money, those of us
with Autoblog business cards have to sate ourselves with Bugatti's Veyron configurator, where we can dream from afar of
an obscene amount of exterior and interior color finishes, supple leathers, and name-your-price bespoke features... all
without sweating the million dollar entry fee.
Don't worry, we're not about to get all Stefan Eriksson on you, but we're still itchin' for a ride in one fo these things.

Wholly irrelevant and fantastically delayed car from a crappy company.
Doesn't deserve a tenth of the press it gets. Who cares, really?
lee @ Apr 22nd 2006 5:21PM
Wow, Ted, who crapped in your cereal bowl?
"Crappy company"? What, in your experience, makes Bugatti crappy? Owned a bunch of their cars, have you?
Who cares if it's delayed, if it's right? The car's got the goods.
Corey W. @ Apr 22nd 2006 5:52PM
What's the point of having "the goods" when very few can afford it. Why even care if such a car is produced...
Cody Peterson @ Apr 22nd 2006 6:05PM
The reason why you should appreciate such a vehicle because it is a work of art.
Who ever said art has to be a sculpture or some painting that hangs on the wall?
This is the best type of art, one thats mobile, and can easily wheeled about to show off its beauty, style, and sense of awe and amazement.
I would much rather own this piece of art verses some stupid painting that will merely hang on the wall with no other purpose than sitting stagnant while the world continues to spin on...
zverg @ Apr 22nd 2006 6:14PM
Couldn't have said it better myself Cody. What a beautiful piece of art the Veyron is.
Christian @ Apr 22nd 2006 6:38PM
I'd advise watching Top Gear's review of this car. They saw it as something special, a one of, an engineering feat, not just a car. And he beat a plane Italy to London :D
That One Person @ Apr 22nd 2006 6:38PM
I agree Cody. Even if its priced extremely high, its still the best thing on the planet. Who cares who can afford it. I dont see you complaining about the people who own original Van Gogh's.
The Veyron, while delayed a ton of times and unattainable by many, is the god of all cars. If you complain about this, complain about the McLaren F1...
LiquidRetro @ Apr 22nd 2006 6:39PM
Here is the paint job I would choose today I think. I went with the inside similar to the CGT

I'm with Cody & zverg on this + to Ted; Bugatti is not a crappy company! Their history spans the 20th century, and EB's passion and love for the company makes it truly spectacular. Bugatti is one of the more important and illustrious car manufacturers in the world, one that should never be called crappy. So there you go.
Cody Peterson @ Apr 22nd 2006 6:48PM
Christian: I have that Top Gear episode and thats when I truly became in love with this car. Before, I thought "1001 bhp, isn't that overkill?" But no its not, because this car is engineered to use every single ounce of power and puts it on the ground via rubber and doesn't slow down till the wind starts to make this car pretty much "fly".. its.. beautiful... :-)
I would post the torrent link on this site, but do to copyright issues i cannot... however it IS legal to simply throw out random words such as final - gear - dot - com ... :-P

I'll admit I was skeptical at first when this car was released, but after Clarkson took it for a go, I changed my mind.
If it's good enough for him, it's more than good enough for me.
Kudos on the website. It's rare to see an exotic manufacturer develop an entertaining to like these for mere mortals like us.
David @ Apr 22nd 2006 7:07PM
A car that costs over a million dollars should be a great car like a house that costs over a million should be a big house. When cost is no object, we should get amazing things. And a car that has 1000 HP should be fast.
But given that speed comes with power and cost, doesn't a great car have to be more than powerful and fast. This is 2 passenger car that weighs over two tons. Unless the VW group (and no #2 this car has nothing to do with the original Bugatti compnay except the name; it's the worlds most expensive Volkswagen) has repealed the laws of physics the car will not handle as well as say a Porsche Carrera GT (3000lbs) or a F1, or an Enzo, or for that matter an Exige. It's impossible to see out of which makes it wildly impractical as a road car except in very low to no traffic. The car is very wide making it a tough handle on twisty narrow two lane roads where a great sportscar should shine.
It strikes me that a truly great car would be lighter, less powerful, as fast and give nothing away in the handling department. This car is after all not much faster than a F1 (252 vs 235) while having a 350HP edge in power. Not much faster because, though made of "lightweight" materials, it's close to a ton heavier. Great engineering should have been able to solve that problem at this pricepoint.
Corey W. @ Apr 22nd 2006 8:30PM
In 20 years no one will care about this work of art other than die hard enthusiast and high priced collectors. I'm not going to claim to be an expert on the Veyron, but other than costing the most and using the first twin clutch tranny, what else is it THE BEST IN THE WORLD at, because for one million dollars, nothing should be able to spank it.
Proud Japanese @ Apr 22nd 2006 9:13PM
What about Top speed? It still holds the record for the production car. I doubt anyone else is going to bother let alone bother.
G.M Fanatic @ Apr 22nd 2006 11:32PM
I think the new Yukon Denali, looks better than that no good for nothing, high priced car Veryon.
Opposite Lock @ Apr 23rd 2006 12:03AM
20 years on, most anyone with the slightest interest in cars is still crazy about a Countach or an F40, 10 years on the F1 is still considered one of the best cars of all time. This will be added to a very exclusive but amazing list of cars that will not be soon forgotten.

"What's the point of having "the goods" when very few can afford it."
I can't afford the new 103'' LCD display that I saw on engadget but by making very expensive things like this TV, or this Car it brings down the cost of technology on less expensive electronics and vehicles. It's all relative.
And my new 50'' display thats hanging over my fireplace was brought to me by people pushing the envelope. It's called Innovation my friend.
Speed42 @ Apr 23rd 2006 12:17AM
I can't own a Monet, either, but I sure can enjoy its beauty.
Great little toy. I wasted a good hour fantasizing with the different color choices. Thanks for the link.
I'm disappointed you can't choose a yellow/black exterior color, though. Some of the early prototypes were seen with these scheme and it was stunning.
Thanks again!
Tyre @ Apr 23rd 2006 1:24AM
In other news... Apparently the $1,000,000+ price tag of the Veyron couldn't be spent on a spell checker. Go to the Spoiler section and then go to page 5 there's no space between "pressure" and "and". Good job guys!
Corey W. @ Apr 23rd 2006 1:25AM
Damn.... Brain Fart!!
You're right, I forgot it did break that record.
Koenigsegg ccr - $350K Top speed 241.1
McLaren F1 - $900K Top Speed 240 (They had this for over 10 years, unquestionable abilities on the track)
Bugatti Veyron - $1.3M Top speed 248.6 (undocumented C&D test at 253mph)
Koenigsegg ccx - $510K Top Speed 250+ est. (undocumented but this is the new model, you know they are coming back for the crown.)
The initial Veyron build cost is estimated $5 million per vehicle to design and produce. Wow, how long is it going to take them to break even??
- Gordon Murray, designer of the McLaren F1 said the following about the Bugatti Veyron after it broke his car's records: "The most pointless exercise on the planet has got to be this four-wheel-drive 1000 horsepower Bugatti. I think it’s incredibly childish this thing people have about just one element – top speed or standing kilometre or 0-60. It’s about as narrow minded as you can get as a car designer to pick on one element. It’s like saying we’re going to beat the original Mini because we’re going to make a car 10mph faster on its top speed – but its two foot longer and 200 kilos heavier. That’s not car designing – that just reeks of a company who are paranoid."
I'm not a Veyron hater, I'd gladly take it as a gift, I just don't think it's worth the price. Hell, I wouldn't pay for a F1 either... Now a slightly used CCR,X is a little more realistic. But it's all still in my dreams, so IMO, why even care...
