Man sells car for drugs, then reports vehicle stolen
This is either a sad story, or a candidate for the world's dumbest criminal.Neal Stevenson needed drugs. So he sold his car, a 1999 Honda Accord, to a 16 year-old for $150 worth of cocaine. Later, Stevenson contacted the police and reported that his vehicle had been stolen. The police tracked it down the next day, at which point the new owner showed the title with Stevenson's signature.
Both Stevenson and the 16-year old were arrested.
Shades of Culture Club lead singer Boy George, who reported a similar situation last year, though he claimed his residence was robbed.

Don't Honda Accords have higher resale value than that?
That's messed up about the drugs though.
Protege5 with extensive suspension mods is my cocaine :)

Sweet Jesus. That's my hometown, spent a few Friday nights at the Ft Henry Mall.
Glad I made it to the safe confines of Dallas.

So is the kid legally entitled to the car? He may need it to pay for his legal expenses.

So how did the contract look like?
"I hereby sell my Honda for 150$ worth of cocaine..."?
Or how else did they find out about the drugs?

They also found drugs in the car, so thats why the kid was arrested.

Had a family member who let a drug dealer "borrow" his car so that he could get a hit -- pactically pawned everything else he owned. He wanted his car but, of course, the dealer wouldn't give it back. To make a long story short he got his car back and two bullet holes on the side of his car (but his body parts intact). This is what drugs do to you. Stay away!

The man didn't have ANYTHING closer in value to $150 than... his car? He probably could've just pried off the "H" badges for him.

ZenDriver... That's the first thing I thought of when I read his name - "NO WAY this guy has the same wierd spelling, it's gotta be him..."
I guess the cops didn't listen to Reason.

...but now that I think of it, I think his last name was spelled with a 'ph' instead of the 'v' of this article's bonehead... still funny though.

While at the mall he later felt like he got ripped off and came up with the story that he was a victim of a carjacking

Pick 100 people off of the street and 99 are idiots.
We're doomed.

I didn't need another reason to hate people who drive Accords, but it doesn't hurt to have one.

Actually, the guy was right, "My car was stolen!" if he had been offered that at a dealer we'd all be saying he got screwed.
Maybe we should put this kid on the right path and offer him a job as a used car manager. Can't you hear it?
"Well now sir, this little ole Honda here is only worth a 150 bucks, I'll throw in some floor mats and an air freshner in the new one. Deal? Hey boss, I just took in this 99 Honda, clean ride lets wash it, put it on the lot at 3,000 grand."
Kids missing his calling.
Bad deal with the drugs though. #1 16 years old is actually getting into the game late. We've seen them as young as 8.
