New York Auto Show: 2007 Shelby Hertz GT350H intro and high-res shots
Click for gallery of 14 high-res images from the show floor
The Autoblog crew was on hand to witness the introduction of the 2007 Shelby Hertz GT350H "Rent-a-Racer", and Carroll Shelby himself climbed out of the 'stang to talk about his latest creation. Prior to the car's debut on stage, a quick video clip was played that showed the proper way to return the Rent-a-Racer to Hertz, with opposite-lock power oversteer apparently being an approved method of navigating the return lanes. The clip ends with Carroll in the driver's seat, stating "now that's what I call a rental car" -- very cool.
Our live shots of the GT350H are located after the jump - just click on the thumbs to see them in high-resolution glory. We hope ya like 'em.

when cars like these pop out at an auto show, i don't understand how people can bash ford. whether this would go into production or not isn't the question; instead, just look at how easily it *could* go into production? this isn't a concept that's far from reality

If Carroll Shelby ever gets into my car I'm going to make sure he doesn't have anything to write with.

I really like the look of the gold/black but I wish this was available here in the UK. Hertz operates here, why no rent-a-racer? The Mustang itself is kinda available but not readily and plentifully.

I don't like the wheels but I understand why they are used.
It would have been nice to hear the engine in addition to the all of the photos...

Oh good, high res pics to see just how cheesy the fake side air vents are...

I like the look and the idea of another "H", but the original was actually a full-on Shelby Mustang and thus really was track-ready. This is just a mildly clapped-up GT from what I've read; so it's not really true to the concept. Regardless, they'll go to collectors at silly prices once Hertz starts selling 'em off.

This is a great move for Ford. They show that they can make a great car and then they get millions of dollars of free advertising and buzz by getting Hertz to rent them again. I have always been a mustang fan and have owned three of them 65,79 and 95. This version is one of the best. When Hertz is done for them stand back and watch the bidding go through the roof as 500 people try and buy these cars. My guess is these will also be very expensive to rent and will only go to the best Hertz Gold customers.

They actually have a 2007 GT500 coming out that is more agressive looking, with 475hp to back up the looks. Not just a clapped up GT for sure.

I own an 05 GT, what is the difference, what Is the Hype.......Is it all about Shelby? There were no engine specs, nothing, to make me want to trade mine in. Now Rousche? THats a mustang, but HERTZ? Are you marketing THe mustang or a rental car company?

This car is a go back to the 60's Rent a racer was a gimmick and the cars were great. I hope they keep it the way they did back then they arent for sale but only for Hertz. The Muscle car age may be returning.
And as a Mustang and Shelby fan I would want him to sign it. He use to sign all of his mustangs in teh 60's

"New York" auto show, huh?
I am not a Ford man ... never have been a Ford man. But if they would up the hp to 425 & throw in a sturdy 6 speed, I'd buy one in a "New York" minute! (If it was available to the buying public, that is.)
Beautiful sports car!

Man, if I had to go out of town and leave my personal 550 horse Cobra behind, I'd rent this hog, get the $15 insurance and run the tires off of it. Way to go Hertz. I'll be waiting.

How much less to rent if Shelby doesn't scribble his name on the inside?
