New York Auto Show: high-res shots of 2007 Honda Element SC intro
We were on hand to watch Honda executive VP Dick Colliver preside over the official debut of the Honda Element SC. Painted approximately the color of root beer, the various exterior and interior tweaks definitely represent an improvement for the box-shaped SUV (more details here). Honda sees the target audience as young men who are looking for a means of expression, which likely means that suburban baby-boomers will love it.
More high-res shots after the jump...
There are plenty more photos of the Element SC after the jump; each pic is a thumbnail that links to a higher-res version.

Though I didn't think it was possible, Honda has outdone itself. This is uglier than the first rendition.

Is this a demonstration of "putting lipstick on a pig"? Or is it just me?

I've driven an element around town (FlexCar), and I have to say despite the extreme ugly factor, it's kind of fun to drive. I felt like a bit like a mad delivery driver (a shame I couldn't ride without a door like the UPS man). My friends and I decided that this is definitely not a car you'd like to own, but one that you might like to borrow for a few hours.
A side note; if you're planning on transporting a mattress on the roof, even if only for a few blocks, make sure to tie it down. Yeah...

I think the Element is the perfect vehicle for Hondas first SUV hybrid. If it got over 30 mpg I would buy it tomorrow
I like the improvements with this, although I would still want a washable interior, and well, less bling rims

Well, at least its original, and they got rid of the nasty plastic outside. Id take the xB over it though.

It's not exactly a Mazda-hot car, but I'd take it over ANY of the Scions.

It's awful, have to run to the sink and heave now.

It doesn't look that much different from the old one. I don't mind the Element, the CRV has always been the one that bugs me. People seem to like them though.

The fact that you morons think it's fugly makes it even more appealing to me. Sure don't want to be in the same company as you losers.

I agree with the person who said this should be Honda's first hybrid. The only thing holding me back from buying something like the Element is gas mileage.

I have driven an Element before and it is by far one of the most fun suv's to drive and its utility as a vehicle to move things around is great. I really like the small details in the car like the extra groove in the dashboard to place things and the full folding rear seats. The stadium seating is also a big plus. I am really looking forward for this one and if they have one with a hybrid i will surely go back to it.

Maybe they could just go ahead and put an "xB" badge on it....

Man that's just plain ugly. A delivery van in a tux.

Ugly as it may be, it is sure as hell better than a minivan to haul kids, stuff, and travel in. It is a fun car for those days that you need to drive and so something out of the ordinary. Day to day? Not so much.
