New York Auto Show: Ford F-150 FX2 sport truck
For those F-150 fans who are looking for a distinctive sport truck trim package but don't want 4WD and the off-road specific equipment of the wildly popular FX4, Ford is bringing the FX2 to its showrooms this fall.
The package, available on Super Cab and SuperCrew trucks, includes a billet aluminum grill, body-colored accents, a chrome exhaust tip, unique 18" wheels, leather-wrapped steering wheel, captain's chairs with accented stitching, and a special finish on the center stack and gage cluster.
There's no word yet on pricing or whether certain optional equipment (such as the 5.4L V8) will be mandatory. Ford expects that the FX2 will account for a healthy 5% of all F-series sales, or about 45,000 units each years.

I guess as a base model it would be nice to have the ford products look like this, but trucks arent cars, they should have 4wd and if this thing is expensive its a joke

I love these "sport" packages. Just like a Caravan "Sport" or Highlander "Sport". It's a pathetic attempt to move old product with a some shiny bits that do nothing to make a vehicle "sporty". If there were some performance improvements, than it would be "sporty". An "FX2" package is OK, just don't call it a "Sport". A SVT Lightning is sporty - no, wait, Ford killed off SVT. More Kool-Aid, please.

I have to disagree with one point from the first post - for most truck owners, even work trucks, 4wd is unnecessary. The initial expense, added weight, complexity, and subsequent expensive repairs are not worth the occasional benefit of 4wd. There are exceptions, of course: Off roaders, plowing trucks, trucks that see particularly rugged site work, and those that are in heavy snow areas.
That said, this is just a trim and wheels package, and as Tyo suggested, should be inexpensive.

The "special finish on the center stack and gage cluster" looks exactly like the finish on a normal FX4. Was it supposed to be even more "special" or are they referring to the special one that comes with the FX4 package?

It has always amazed me that a company that is so adept at designing and
building trucks is such a total failure when it comes to its cars.

#2, I agree with you mostly. Does anyone offer a 4x2 truck with traction control? To me it would make a lot of sense, and it's much more technologically feasible. Someday I'd like a compact truck again, and 4WD is overkill, but traction control would be nice for the few days a year when my area gets snow and ice. For me, 4WD, the extra weight, and the MPG penalty isn't really worth it for the other 355 days a year when you don't really need the extra traction that much.

Beautiful truck. It needs chrome, though. It's amazing they can make this F150 look so nice, yet, the Super Duty concept is hideous.
I've never seen an FX4 look this good.
GM, as a loyal fan of yours, please have your design team visit with the Ford guys. I'd much rather buy my next truck from you.

Mustang: not a failure
Fusion: not a failure
500: not a total failure
Focus: not a total failure
What constitutes a total failure and which Ford car is total failure?

Failure: Thunderbird, Freestar, Blackwood, Monterey, Cougar -fwd version, Contour, Mystique......

If you think Thunderbird and Blackwood, both limited, special production vehicles are failures then you should include the Marauder too. Other brands had failures too: Chevy SSR, Pontiac Aztek, Toyota MR2 Spyder, Chrysler Crossfire. Who can think of others? I guess Ford had more failures than other companies...

I would think a truck like this would be very popular in the southern states like Texas and Florida. Peope their don't need a 4x4 but like the look of an FX4 so they shell out the extra dough for a 4x4. A while back (2004) Ford said it was surprised how many FX4 and 4x4 Lariats it sold in warm climate states, so many in fact that at first it made it tough to find a FX4 or 4x4 Lariat.

Funny how you can't buy a pickup out there with actual "sporty" features unless you get one of the bloated super trucks with gaudy styling, a lot of power, but not much practicality.
How hard/expensive would it be to just offer a "sport pkg" with
- improved brakes
- modestly lowered suspension/shock upgrade
- improved steering feedback
- wider lower profile tires/wheels

I was just thinking the other day how I needed a truck like this. Seriously, if the price is right, I'll buy. I don't need the 4WD, but don't wanna get a 2wd base base POS with none of the nice 4WD options.
To the guy who doesn't get "Sport", no doubt the ride height will be different and the tires will be Z-rated (to 300km/h) all season Pirelli Pzero Scorpions. This will make a sweet street/sport truck. Think of it as a cheap Harley-Davidson F150, which is also a street.

Has Ford gotten around to replacing the HUGELY obsolete 4 speed automatic with the ZF 6hp26?
Does Ford even offer a four wheel drive F series pickup? No, no center differential to be found.

Its good Ford continues to offer more models, I think the truck needs a little chrome at least chrome running boards or something to livin it up a bit. Nice to get the FX package on a 2wd. I don't need the extra weight, mechanicals, or cost of a 4x4. I just need a truck to tow with.

The interior looks alot like the Nissan Titan's, now if the power train was as good this might be a good truck.

All this truck needs is the flareside and premium sound system and it will probably be my next vehicle. Wondering how much room in the back seat there is. The black leather seats with floor though console was exactly what was looking for. Hats off to the design team.
