If you're interested in the 260 HP turbo Ecotec that resides under the hood, stay tuned, as we'll be taking a deep dive into the direct-injection lump in a upcoming post.

Beautiful! It's one of sexiest designs ever.

Very cool..........Miata has nothing on the Solstice. From the base car to the GXP. Good Job Pontiac.

Still no usable trunk...check! Still has that awkward to erect/fold top...check! Still has that 1920s 'whip' aerial...check! Still has no usable interior storage space...check! All things check-out...it's still a crappy Pontiac. Miata fans need not worry...nor do Mercury Crapi drivers.

It is an excellent car, but the Solstice/Sky is such a small percentage of GM's production (1+ %) it's like rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic. If GM can't breathe life into their mainstream Chevys/Buicks/Pontiacs/etc they will either sink or hae their primary customer base made up of a demographic that either can't understand quality or afford better vehicles.

looks like a beautiful ride as does the elan; but if your over 6'2" it blows. My 124 spider from 20 years ago fit like a glove but went like a dog. Now they got cars that go like the wind, but only midgets need apply.

If only they would take those stupid 18" wheels off it. More power probably helps, but my bet is it still understeers like a Fiero on dry tarmac.
Has anyone tried 'fixing' a Solstice with different bars and narrower tires? If so, will they please get in touch with Bob Lutz. :(

And I still can't put a bag of golf clubs in it.

From the front it looks like the ripped off the Dodge Neon 'Hi' ad campaign from the '90s.
IMHO the Saturn Sky front and read ends look more aggressive, like a roadster should.

"Very cool..........Miata has nothing on the Solstice. From the base car to the GXP."
Yeah except weight, steering, handling... nothing on it at all.
The hp on the GXP is tempting, but I'll wait to see what Mazdaspeed does for the new Miata.

Kirk,
Roadsters traditionally don't look aggressive at all.
Think MG, Triumph, Austin-Healey, and more recently the Miata, TT, Z3, etc.
I think that the Soltice's best strength is that it nailed the roadster look, without caving in to trends or to individuals who need a car to express their masculinity.
The Solstice is the classiest thing Detroit has done in a long time. I'd still prefer the Miata though.

Awesome! It's like a Miata only cool and without the projectile launching steering wheel. Sign me up.

I get the same feeling about this car that I did about the first mustang, I was 18 and could only afford to look. Too many cars today look exactly alike and have no personality, but not this baby. This little gem screams drive me, and I just might do that. Look out Boo-lee-vard here I come, step aside fella's give me some space..

This car is sooo tempting, and I too am eagerly awaiting the new Mazdaspeed MX-5. I currently have a 2nd gen Miata, and for me the biggest drawback to the Solstice/Sky is the fact that there is pretty much no way to raise or lower the top without getting out of the car. Living in south FL, sudden rain is a part of life. Not only has Mazda simplified their new top, but they've set it up so that top down leaves the weather side up: no need for a tonneau. Both GM's are seriously hot though, I wouldn't kick either one out of my garage. The new MX-5 looks so much better in person than in pictures, but I have to say, the GMs still win in the looks department. I haven't even heard any good rumours on what Mazdaspeed is planning, but I think it would need at least 240 horses to steer me away from a GXP or a Redline.

Honestly, I much prefer the look of the Saturn Sky to the Solstice. So the Redline is what I'm eager to see... it doesn't have the "cute" look like an old MG and looks more modern. It still does look feminine though as do most roadsters. Even the Boxster does to a degree.

You've gotta remember that the turbo on this thing will be making alot of useable torque.
That being said, i went to a "focus group" thing about the solstice...and it was way lame. They were using these stupid ass claims/words and asking what we thought of them.
My favorite was; "The Ultimate in Pontiac Driving" or something like that....it made me laugh and I told them that if this is the best they can do, they shouldn't be making sports cars....c'mon, you guys built a WS6, how can you call this ultimate. Ohh, and they had absolutely NO specs on the car to offer. All i wanted was some basics, weight, power curves, rotor size, etc....how are you gonna tell me it's the ULTIMATE and then not back it up??? lame.
However, this will take a big slice out of the S2000/Z4/miata sales i'm sure.

Very nice!!! I'll take this over Maita any day. Miata might have some pluses, but come on, 75% of the fun comes from beating the car next to you at a stoplight or highway - thats when the Solstice will shine...

These things don't look quite right in person. I wanted to like them, I really did, but they're just a little too bulbous for my tastes.

GM really deserves some praise for this and the Sky. They produced a car that's desirable, and affordable. Now if they can just make some sedans with the same traits.

See, GM can make a car people want when the apply themselves.
