I live 5 miles from work, and don't have the option of riding a bike and showering. This machine, could in theory allow me to leave my car (24mpg) in the driveway, which means one less vehicle on the road, and a saving of $10.00 day in parking fees - not bad in my book!

Bob Allan

Comments on Segway rolling around New York Auto Show

I think the point people are trying to make here is that we don't need another convenience. Sure technology is great, but people are getting lazy enough. Is it that much to ask for people to walk anymore? 60% of the time people get hoverounds and stuff because they're fat lazy asses who wonder why their legs hurt when they walk or why they get tired when the walk a hundred yards. It's because of that quarter ton of wieght you're carrying. Did you know that for every elevator, there is a staircase nearby, yet you still use the elevator??! The Segway serves the same purpose as an elevator...it is a power tool that moves a person from A to B quickly and efficiently. It replaces DRIVING...instead of using your single occupant SUV to go 3 miles. No parking, no fumes, no fossil fuels. Lots more exercise involved using a Segway than sitting in your stinking car. Americans are obese becasue they stuff themselves on supersize value meals, then sit motionless in a car/truck/SUV to travel a mile or two to work, NOT because they use a Segway.

empire

Comments on Segway rolling around New York Auto Show

Most of you guys have no idea what you're talking about and I'm guessing most have not been on a Segway, much less ever seen one. A Segway is not a replacement for exercise, nor a replacement for walking, because it can move significantly faster than walking, taking people greater distances in shorter periods of time. It really isn't a difficult concept, or hard to understand where the Segway can fit in to the scheme of transportation options. You may want to actually try one, before opening your yappers. America, by the way, is getting fat primarily because of an increase fast food habits, accompanied by a general lack of exercise. Eliminate or reduce fast food, and then we'll have a solution for obesity. Trying to blame the Segway is ridiculous. Just because this rider happens to appear a little heavy, and we don't know exactly why he is using a Segway, does not mean that most riders are heavy. Most riders I've seen have been rather fit looking. The fact is that driving a car around is the most "lazy" form of transportation available—-more so than walking, biking, and certainly the Segway! My suggestion is that people try to get out of their cars for shorter trips, and use whatever else is available. Try walking, biking, and the Segway for short to moderate commutes. I bet in the end, the mode that will win you over is the Segway. Of course, if all you can afford is a skateboard, you may have to stick with what you have, or hop on the nearest bus. I think Segways are awesome, and look forward to new developments from Segway and other innovative, cutting edge companies. The rest of you can enjoy paying $3.00+ per gallon for gas this summer, while polluting the environment, wasting resources, increasing global warming, supporting fossil fuel dependencies, funding oil rich nations, and contributing to our need to spend billions of dollars of tax money to engage in military action in the Middle East, all while sitting on your ignorant, lazy asses in your cars and SUVs.

Jacob
