New York Auto Show: 2007 Infiniti G35 sedan
Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn was on hand to personally unveil the newly redesigned Infiniti G35 sedan, underscoring the importance of this model. With the G accounting for approximately one-third of Infiniti sales and serving as a gateway to the brand for many buyers, Nissan is clearly looking to maintain its position the near-luxury market segment by improving not only the dynamic performance but also the interface between man and machine.
Nissan's VQ35 high-output V6 is back but with 80% new content, its redline increased to a screaming 7500 RPM, and power boosted over the 300 HP mark. Backing the motor is either a row-your-own 6-speed or a 5-speed autoshifter, the latter being equipped with magnesium shift paddles. Power can be delivered to the pavement via the rear wheels or Nissan's optional ATTESA AWD system.
The Washi-style aluminum trim is intended to duplicate the look of traditional rice paper, and in person it's quite striking. Keeping the ears happy is a Bose "Studio on Wheels" system, with an "audiophile quality" headunit and a 3-way speaker arrangement - including a 10" woofer - tucked into the front doors. In fact, those doors are said to have been designed around the sound system rather than the other way around.

of a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and Downshift Rev Matching or close-ratio 6-speed manual
transmission. Steering wheel-mounted solid magnesium paddle shifters are
standard on the G35 Sport A/T model.

The GT-R won't eat G35 Coupe sales because the horsepower difference will still be substantial (300 hp vs. 450-ish). Driving 300 hp is fun, driving 450 hp is a blast, but requires some skill!
I agree about the awd coupe. I think they should do it.

GT-R is all performance. G35 coupes are even less performance than Z.
I'm sick of the whole "angry 3 series" look that BMW, Audi and now Nissan have adopted. Not diggin the front. The panel sculpting has BMW written all over them.

Heard that the coupe will be offering a soft top convertible and AWD, later than the drop top. Going to see this new sedan in person and own a 2003 sedan now which I love....time to re-up my infiniti membership this fall

Interior looks very SUV-ish to me ... particularly the air vents. Not feeling that. Too many buttons around the nav screen. Too much plastic. It's an improvement and a nice car for sure, but not enough to take me from the Germans.
The larger problem is who is this car trying to compete with? It's way too big to be a 3-Series/IS/C-Class/A4 competitor now and it can't compete on the next level. It's kind of a tweener and that's not good. But I'm sure it'll sell well.

Wow, I am honestly surprised that so many people like the look of this car. I think it is a hodge-podge of design concepts that do not fit well together and a definite step back from the current design.
In fact, from some angles it looks a lot like the new IS. And its pretty cheap to just rip off design elements from the car you are competing against (the kink). I liked the last G35 for what it was because it was original and its own car, even though I did not own one.

Is that a weird pebble finish on the dash? Or is it just a digital photo problem?

Infinity finally got the interior and the rear right! One of the few true contenders to BMW's 330i just got better.

in the close up pics that washi texture is amazing. Overall a good score on the interior. they do need to get rid of all those buttons on the navi, though. a touch screen menu with maybe a dial control system would be good. simpler would be better in this case.
the exterior is nice, and I'm still going to have to get used to the bolbousness in the heads and tails, but it's what makes it distinctive.
But if there's one thing hands down that I love is the hard moody lighting for Nissan's reveal at the NYIAS show. it really brings out a lot of nice edges you don't see in the press pictures, especially in that hood. Of course it makes it for a definite real world impression too.

Ahh, yes... It was bound to happen, I guess. Way to go Nissan in f-ing up one of the nicest cars in recent years. What the hell happened with those headlights? They look positively retarded. When are these idiots going to understand that adding random compound curves and surfaces to a car is retarded?
Oh, but I am willing to bet that there are quite a few people out there who see that crap and are like "Yo, that sh*t is mad hott, Sonnnnn!"

Nice ... but I want AWD and the features of the sport model, both together. It looks as though Nissan still might not get it the way Audi does; AWD = performance when in northern climates, and the two shouldn't be separated. Same problem with the Intiniti M -- you can't get the V8 with AWD. I hope I'm wrong. Infiniti will have my $$$ if they offer what I want, and a lot of other snow belt people feel the same way.

Is that a rebadged Altima? If they can bring that in for $30k or less it should be a popular seller.

I tell you, I second those comments here about past generations G35 interiors. They really did a great job with this one. That steering wheel is a thing of beauty, thick, meaty and nicely designed. I have been dying to find a suitable replacement for my Audi A4. I am sick of the Audi reliability problems, I am delighted that Infinity came out with a great option for me to go for after my lease experies.
I have only one gripe, the navigation controls look kind of funny, but then again, not car interior is perfect (except the the Audi of course :>))
Silver with silver leather interior (I hope they offer that option) and with 300 ponies, only 6 speed manual will be allowed in my garage!!

I like the looks of this new unit. It looks very similar in many respects to the previous versions, however they have smoothed some areas of concern. I own a 2004 G35 and have never believed the interior to be a real issue. There are some creaks and growns, however, that Infiniti has never been able to fully address. Fussy is an understatement for me so hopefully this will be a quick but quiet (body noises) vehicle. All that I want to be able to hear is the roar of those twin pipes. Looking forward to its release as my lease expires in November 2006!!!! Cant wait to shift those paddles!

5 speed automatic, Where is the 6 speed JATCO automatic?
As is stands the 5 speed automatic has only a 4.2:1 ratio spread[as good as a 4 speeds]. The wide ratio version of that JATCO 4.6:1 coverage.
Something has to give, performance or mileage. The G35 already picked mileage (it sucks)
The Lexus IS350 has the power & mileage, thanks to 6:1 ratio coverage 6 speed automatic, and 2gr-fse engine.

SWEEET!! i was worried when i saw that back end with the lip spoiler. but the side profile looks REALLY strong. i really hope it can be at least of equal to the 330i this time around. it was just so darn close last gen because of the interior.
white-violet lighting makes a lot more sense than, let say, cheap orange.
unlike the is350, i am pretty sure that infiniti will have some decent handling to back up the new 300hp+ V6.

They have a internal harddrive so you really don't need an ipod. RWD is better than AWD. AWD advantages are when you're getting out of a hairpin you can point and shoot it out. The added weight with AWD is retarded. Why do you guys think that the skylines gt-r are always RWD bias most of the time? Lexus IS passenger seat is so cramp and the ride isn't as sporty as the infiniti.

I have been anticipating this car for a while now, but now that i've seen the subpar exterior, I am going to wait to see what the pricing is and see if I think it's worth it. I originally wanted to buy a 2006 (fully loaded, nav, body kit) as opposed to the 2007 but I'm friends with my dealer and he told me to wait and check out the '07. So i took the advice. The interior of the 2007 is beautiful and technologically impressive, but what happened to the exterior? It's not as exciting as the 1st generation G. The front has maintained its combative stance and aggressive fascia (a plus), but aside from that and the premium interior, I'm gonna go ahead and give exterior styling a thumbs down. The side stance for '07 is not as exciting and belligerent as the '06. It looks like a Lexus GS from the side. It's my understanding Infiniti is supposed to COMPETE with LEXUS, not TURN into one! On to the rear. This is perhaps the most disappointing part of the car. The trunk is oddly shaped with a sad excuse for a lip spoiler mounted atop it, and the rear bumper is not as impressive as the '06. I will definately have to see it in person (WITH a FULL body kit and rear WING spoiler) and test drive it to see if I'm satisfied enough to overlook my opinion of the exterior styling. That is, if I dont buy the '06 by then. NOVEMBER?! C'mon!! I want to see it now! -lol- As I'm sure everyone else does. As of now - I'm on the fence with which model to buy. We'll see what happens.

Great refinement, exterior and interior. Can't wait to trade in my olg G35 for the new one in November. It would have look much much better if the interior was like the 2007 G35 Concept, it would have looked more futuristic and would have blown away the competition.
The definitely need a G35 6MT AWD. To really feel the performance, you gotta go with the stick.
