Alfa Romeo 8C ready for production?

Italiaspeed reported Wednesday that Alfa Romeo's 8C Competizione concept is being readied for production. The concept car (shown above) debuted in Frankfurt in 2003, and rumors of its possible production have run rampant ever since, and the latest tantalizing hint of 8C activity at Alfa Romeo is this new video. (Autoblog readers will recall that Alfa Romeo prepared a similar pre-launch video for the Alfa Brera.)
Italiaspeed reports that the production version of the 8C Competizione will debut at the Paris Motor Show later this year, and production will begin in 2007. The production 8C is said to be powered by Maserati's new 4.7-liter engine, rather than the supercharged 4.2-liter unit in the concept car. The new engine is expected to produce between 460 and 500 hp, good for 0-62 mph in about 4.5 seconds.
The new Alfa will be positioned opposite Ferrari's F430 coupe, avoiding competition with Maserati's less-expensive models.
More information on the evolution of the 8C Competizione is available from Alfa Romeo here.
Thanks for the tip, Noah!

There are several italian newspaper articles published online today that also confirm Alfas plans to produce this car. The CEO of Fiat is quoted as saying it will be built (at least as far as I can tell from the translation).
I think Alfa would be smart to build this car and use it to re-launch Alfa Romeo in the North American market along with their Brera and 159.

America gets plenty of cool cars that don't get sold over seas in a lot of cases as well.
The euro Ford Focus is the only one I'm really upset about because other cars based on the same platform are already sold here.

There is god after all!!!
Though i must say that door handle and keyhole combo looks very 1980s. Maybe they are going for that retro look, but i would get rid of the keyhole and go for some more new age thing

Alfa Romeo: Build This Car and sell it the U.S. market. You will not regret it for un minuto.

If the engine is from Maserati, you can be sure that it is heavily based off a Ferrari engine.
Which means, sadly, this car is not going to be cheap.

I'll never be able to afford one, but I'm extremely happy it's being built.

Luca di Montezemolo deserves high praise for giving the Green light to this incredible Sports Car.
It looks as fantastic as the Brera.

Does anyone else see a little bit of the Panoz Esperante in the 8C? It's almost like this is what Panoz really wanted the Esperante to look like.

This is gorgeous design, and nice to see everyone overlook the horrid past of owning an Alfa. My lovely, restored Spyder was my favorite convertible, but not a cheap car to maintain. Money wasn't an issue so I just had it worked on by an independent shop 65 miles away I felt I could 'trust' since there weren't many Alfa specialists in Connecticut. Loved that car, and it was pretty low tech in suspension and drivetrain. I beefed it up with Koni shocks and slightly lowered springs, racing cams and free flow dual exhaust. It was just so pretty, and nicely balanced I loved dumping money into it.
You read all the GM bashers who bitch against the Solstice, yet no one talks about the reliability joke of Alfa.
Of course, I'd buy one in a minute if they were back. And eyeing a Solstice too...perhaps as a daily driver while my Alfa is being fixed, again.

Panoz Esperante?? Subaru?? (OK, that was funny) Think Alfa TZ. A little concerned by the size of the engine -- Alfas aren't really known for big engines, they're about balance, handling, light weight, and fabulous smaller engines. They weren't Auto Union, or Jaguar, or Ferrari, or in recent decades Porsche; and in a marque as evocative and traditional as Alfa, identity is important. But this new 8C is gorgeous.
