Fans of BMW's new Z4 Coupe are in luck -- the first Z4 and M Coupes rolled off the line at BMW's plant in Spartanburg, S.C. Tuesday, just in time for summer sales drives. Both vehicles get their power from BMW's sonorous 3.2L inline six, though the M model provides a bonus 115 horsepower over the base model's 255 hp (for a total of 370) and a 0-60 time of under 5 seconds.

GEEZ those cars are beautiful. 370hp? hot damn. thats 200hp more than my 99 z3 2.3
Corey W. @ Apr 5th 2006 3:19PM
That's how you do it!!! Thank you BMW....
Dan @ Apr 5th 2006 3:19PM
That figure of 370 HP is incorrect. It is the same engine that is in the E46 M3. More like 333 hp. Still a sweet car.
Ethan @ Apr 5th 2006 3:22PM
Umm- I thought the M coupe was going to offer 330hp like the roadster does...
felonious monk @ Apr 5th 2006 3:23PM
Fact checking department on vacation?
330 HP.

This looks amazing, and with the roof fitted should offer even better road-holding than the Z4 roadster. I think the Z4M coupe has got to be one of my favourite would-be cars of almost any price bracket, for day-to-day driving I don't think I need much more, I just hope they release the matt paint that was on the showcar.

Well, the press release is wrong then... http://www.bmwusfactory.com/media_center/releases/release.asp?intReleaseNum=195&strYear=2006

If that press release is correct, I would love to know how they got 370 HP from a NA 3.2. 10,000 rpm redline maybe?
Bob C @ Apr 5th 2006 4:18PM
They were probably referring to the previous z4 3.0 model with 225hp. This is the first year the 3.0 has 255hp.
Eric L. @ Apr 5th 2006 4:42PM
Part right and part wrong.
It is a 115hp increase over the standard models, which have the base 3.0L 215hp engine (not the double vanos 255hp). So, thats 330hp.

I thought the particular horsepower of an engine is related to the weight of the vehicle it is in? So a 6-cylinder M3 motor in a presumably lighter Z4 body would produce more power? Of course I sucked in physics so I could be wrong...
DarkD75 @ Apr 5th 2006 4:51PM
The press release says 370hp.
Lee Gibson @ Apr 5th 2006 4:55PM
"So a 6-cylinder M3 motor in a presumably lighter Z4 body would produce more power"
Um, no. The power output of the engine is unrelated to vehicle weight. Acceleration is related to vehicle weight. The same engine will accelerate a lighter vehicle more rapidly than a heavy vehicle.

I've never been a fan of BMWs shape for small coupes and roadsters, with their overly long noses. I much prefer the sleek, proportioned lines of coupes such as the G35, new civic coupe, MB CLS, and BMWs own 6 series.

Stunning design, bold and agressive. Not a thing out of place. This is a car that coupe dreams are made of.
Jake @ Apr 5th 2006 7:38PM
Absolutely georgous, just hope I can fit in one.....
Finished.Law.School @ Apr 5th 2006 8:57PM
This is definitely an improvement.

Now all I've got to so is wait eight years before they come into my price range. So in 2,920 days, I'll be stylin! But I'll probably crash, and Busta Rymes will leap out of the bushes to take the piss out of me and disresepct my lady. Or the hippies will have bought them all before me and I'll have to spend 5 grand removing the vegetable oil modifications. Or worse, the teenagers will have got to them and I won't be able to buy one that's not been booted and lowered (have you tried to buy an early-nineties three series recently? Nothing standard out there.)
