Vertu offers high-end cell phones for (and of) the track

Sister-site Luxist has posted on a new series of high-end cell phones from Vertu called Racktrack Legends that pay homage to the most celebrated circuits in the world. The first two in the six-phone series are dedicated to Monza (shown) and Silverstone. The phones feature real racing tread rubber and the course map laser-etched on the back. Only 1,000 numbered editions of each phone will be produced. We have no idea how much one of these Bluetooth-enabled babies will cost, but if it’s on Luxist then probably more than we’re willing to spend.
Thanks Noah for the heads up!

The phone will be around 4-6k if it follows other Vertu phones in this line. They made a 997 limited edition (997 copies who would have thunk) last year to go along with the 997 race car they co-sponsored.
Vertu is owned by Nokia, and for the most part Vertu phones are slightly stripped nokia internals, with very very high grade exteriors.
There is one difference you get with Vertu though, you have a 24/7 concierge service available programmed on a special button. You should be able to get a Vertu phone to run no problem on any GSM network in the US, so buy the phone at a jeweler and call t-mobile or cingular to set up service.
Why would anyone pay up to 7k for a stripped feature set on a phone? Well think of it like a rolex. You can get a very good looking watch for about $150 or you can get a rolex that does not keep time as well for around... 4-7k...

Ha ha - what an ignorant thing to say. Automatic movement watches keep very good time - they just rely on body movement to keep the spring wound. Much of the allure is in the intricacy and pure mechanical marvel of the machine movement, not to mention the attention to assembly that a nicer watch (like an Omega, Rolex, Zenith, Tag Heuer, etc) gets.
You should take your argument further - I mean, for that 4-7k you don't even get a calculator! Ha ha. True or False: It is acceptable to wear a Casio G-Shock (which also keeps perfectly good time) with a suit.
Regardless, your comparison is not exactly firing on all cylinders.
