Mazda debuting CX-9 in New York

This morning Mazda announced that its CX-9 seven-passenger SUV would be debuting at the New York Auto Show next week. The CX-9 was designed and engineered with both eyes on the North American market, just like its little brother, the CX-7. The larger ute will get Mazda’s new MZI 3.5L V6 coupled with a six-speed auto. It will be built at Ujina No. 1 plant near Mazda HQ in Hiroshima and is expected to arrive in dealer showrooms by early 2007.

Nissan should sue them - this is a Murano ripoff.

With three kids, I'm very interested in this vehicle. This first photo doesn't look so good, though. Looks like a stretched CX-7 with a bland front end. I WISH they'd ripped off the Murano--it's considerably more interesting to look at.

The "moron"O, uh errr... I mean Murano wishes it looked this good. They'd have no basis for a suit since this out classes the Murano in all categories. Maybe the owners of Muranos should sue Nissan for making a crossover ute that cannot handle 4 people AND their luggage, have you ever seen the boot of a Murano? It's a tiny little thing compaired to the rest of the vehicle.

#1 Uh no...then Mazda should sue Toyota over the new Camry. How about VW or Audi suing Ford over their designs. Or how every car company should be suing each other. Or every car company suing all the Chinese car companies for having similar designs...
ANYWAYS, good looking crossover. I am sure it will do well. I would definitely buy one :)

Glasses, I recommend then, I think you should get some Kirsch. Looks nothing like a Murano. I will agree that modern SUVs share styling cues but to categorically say it's a rip off show a level of ignorance bordering on retardation.
Thank you all for coming.

This doesn't look like a Murano.
I'm more concern that Ford thinks we need 3 of the same damn thing. Ford Edge, Mazda CX-9 and Lincoln Aviator OOPS! MDX OOPS I meant MKS.
If Ford wanted make money in this there would only be two. One luxury and the other cheap-xury.

Where in the heck does it look like a Murano?
Murano's are gross, this is not, this looks like a CX-7.
What's with all of the negative comments people? I can provide you with the links on all the CX-7 posts and they were 98.3% pumped about this lineup, must be a case of the Tuesdays?!

Nissan only wished they had a design look this good.
Murano owners are jealous!

Let's see - 3.5L Cyclone (aka Duratec 35) engine, 6-speed automatic (aka 6F aka Ford/GM transaxle). Sounds like a Ford Edge to me...

#8, you're probably right. although i'm guessing that the MZI tacks on variable valve timing to the Duratec, which was the case on the previous MZI 3.0L

The CX-7 and CX-9 are related in looks, but not platform. The CX-9 is closely tied to the Edge and MKX while the CX-7 is unique. I had figured that this was the case given the fact that the CX-9 was using the 3.5 V6, but I went ahead and confirmed it with Mazda.

Okay geniuses... Google "CX-7 looks Murano" and count the dozens of people in all kinds of forums who say essentially Murna made the mold and Mazda poured its products right into it.
All of your Mazdaphile candy ass howling doesn't make me wrong. Murano is the original - nobody had anything like it before. Now me-too Mazda jumps on the bandwagon.
It's too bad, because Mazda is capable of good design, like the RX-* and the Kubura concept - two real originals. This thing is a copy that they should be ashamed of.

The is beautiful on the outside, but has one of the worst interiors I've ever been in. The GMs and Fords of the world has a chance as long as Nissan is producing interiors like this!
The CX-7,9 look great on the outside. I like the sporty styling. We'll see how the interior stacks up.

im pretty sure that the 3.5 is just a duratec maybe mildly retuned to fit the mazda brand image [but i'm betting not]

Hey guys!
I think the Mazda looks pretty good. I little too... slippery looking for my taste, but cool. Mazda generally gets good points for handling, so I am anxious to drive one. Does anyone know how much it will cost?
For my money, I'd still take an Outlander.

We should say that about all the companys that build minivans since Chrysler was the first?
Every car maker has been inspired by another.
Its good Mazda built it because its nice to the eyes.
I`m pro GM & Ford domestic but mazda would be my choice for a Japanese make.

Well Frank, maybe you and Kirsh can attend movies together where they adjust the focus to compensate for your crossed eyes. Or one of you can use the left eye, the other the right.
