While analyzing Ford's financial prospects, Himanshu Patel, an automotive analyst for JP Morgan, cut Ford's
rating to 'underweight', meaning he predicts the company will underperform financially over the next six months. But his reasoning is the significant part: Patel believes General Motors' upcoming new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra will seriously erode sales of Ford's cash-cow F-Series. Since Ford's full-size pickups make up 26-percent of the Blue Oval's overall sales, the second largest domestic arguably has reason for concern.
"We always monitor the competition," said Ford spokeswoman Becky Sanche "...we have plans to continue to lead the full-size pickup truck segment."
More details of Patel's analysis can be found at the link.

Yeah, you lead it with one of the most miserable diesel engines in the segemnt. I think the new 2500 and 3500 GMs will compete well with Ford's HD trucks (which are really nice designs, just crappy powerplants/powertrains). I seriously doubt that GM will continue to gain market share with the new GMT 900's, as they will likely cost a lot more than the current generation (last I checked, could buy a base silverado for 12k, no Ford even comes close).

Of course the new cummins and transmission found in the upcoming C&C Dodge isn't going to trickle down to the 3500 and 2500 offerings....[sarcasm]

Mr. Patel clearly has no understanding of the HD truck market and the loyalty involved. Ford and GM have shared the lead in trucks for decades, with neither truly dominating the other at any point. Does he actually believed that's going to change? I doubt it. I'm a Ford guy, there isn't a single thing in the world GM could do that would get me out of a Ford and into a GM. That's how it works.
