Writer Peter
Lyon explores the automotive likes and dislikes present in the dark underground that is the Yakuza - Japan's version of
a particularly ruthless mob.
According to Lyon, Nipponese gangsters prefer to drive Mercedes-Benz S-Class limousines, especially in left-hand drive, but they will take Lexus LS' if in a pinch. The author not only observes the Yakuza's four-wheeled tendencies from afar, it actually interviewed a Yakuza boss (who shall remain nameless), he's had years to observe commuters parting like the proverbial Red Sea in order to let the mobster-mobiles continue onward.

When I used to travel to Japan in the 1990's the Yakuza in Yokohama and Niigata favored black Cadillacs and MB's. So, it looks like GM is loosing market share even there.

Bullsh*t. The Yak drive medium-duty industrial trucks, outfitted with hundreds of colored lights and chromed steel bodywork extensions grafted on. Usually dump-trucks with the dump-bed fully chromed, or a garbage truck with the compactor painted like a Yak tattoo... neither of which having ever seen a spot of dirt or filth. These are tax-dodges and money-laundries, which let the bosses spend a little money on a big truck with lotsa lights instead of forking over millions to the Gov't.
