Commercial appeal: Volvo seen buying stake in Nissan (the truckmakers, ya'll)
Truckmaker Volvo AB announced earlier today that it has purchased a 13-percent interest in the Nissan Diesel
Company from Nissan Motor Company. The $195 million dollar stake boosts the Swedish company's profile in Asia, with the
option to buy Nissan Motor's remaining 6-percent stake within the next four years.
Today's news is particularly interesting given that the company revealed designs on improving its North American commercial truck business this past January.

Volvo AB actually bought 13% of the shares that Nissan held in Nissan Diesel. This is not actually Volvo AB purchasing Nissan, but rather Nissan Diesel which does not include vans. Nissan Diesel makes light and heavy duty haulers similar to Isuzu, Mitsubishi, etc.

BAD HEADLINE. Nissan sold off its shares in Nissan Diesel to Volvo. This headline kleaves an entirely different impression and you should change it in the interest of remotely passable journalism.

Should read: Nissan sold off its shares in Nissan Diesel to Volvo TRUCKS.

The author mixes up:
- Volvo Trucks and Volvo Cars (part of Ford)
- Renault Trucks (part of Volvo Trucks) and Renault
- Nissan Diesel and Nissan
The vans shown are a deal between the Renault/Nissan alliance and GM (Opel).
Volvo Trucks nor Renault Trucks nor Nissan Diesel are involved in these vehicles.
Many car manufacturers spun off their heavy truck business, focussing on cars and light commercial vehicles.

I'm not sure how to look at this in light of the North American light commercial designs. If Nissan is selling off it's stake of Nissan Diesel in Japan, what does that mean? Does it clear a way for nissan to outsource an engine? Will nissan get input from Nissan diesel for a heavy duty? any thoughts?

Volvo is making the right move here. Read my blog to perhaps better understand what is going on.
