Late last month ZAP delivered the first 85 Americanized SMART cars to U.S. customers. The first delivery was made to Tim Day of Phoenix who won the honor with the highest bid on an eBay auction last summer. Both the application process for government certification and a suit filed by ZAP against DaimlerChysler and others for business interference has delayed the importation of SMART cars into the U.S. until now.
With the first batch of cars on U.S. soil ZAP is already hard at work modifying hundreds more for sale and setting up additional dealers as well as parts and service programs to support the vehicles. Pricing for the cars varies from $15K to $25K depending on options and accessories. Interested parties can visit ZAP’s dedicated SMART Americanized by Zap webpage.
