AFA, 18 Other Pro-Family Organizations Call For One-Year Boycott of Ford Motor Company
http://www.boycottford.com/
For us, it was very natural to address gay families. Were targeting people with modern day values. Its a value set and the Volvo-minded consumer is very diverse. Family is much more than the traditional family. - Thomas Anderson, executive vice-president of Volvo Cars North America, a division of Ford Motor Company, on definition of family.
American Family Association, along with 18 other pro-family organizations, has called for a one-year boycott of Ford Motor Company. The boycott was called after Ford reneged on an agreement with American Family Association to stop funding homosexual groups which promote homosexual marriage.
Ford could have easily avoided this boycott had they desired to do so by simply remaining neutral in the cultural battles. Leaders of 44 pro-family groups urged Ford not to take sides, but to remain neutral. However, Ford rejected the plea of the leaders and publicly announced their continued support of the homosexual groups. The hundreds of thousands of dollars Ford gives to homosexual groups allows the groups to pay their fixed expenses with funds given by Ford while using other funds in promoting the legalization of homosexual marriage.

Ford has publicly announced they are giving $250,000 to help build a dedicated homosexual community center in Ferndale, Michigan. Regarding their donation, Ford Motor Company Fund (funded by Ford Motor Company) President Sandra Ulsh said, "Ford is proud to support Affirmations (Gay and Lesbian Community Center) and its partners." Ford said the new center will serve as a "cornerstone for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community in the state of Michigan. It will be a place to build and nurture a more inclusive and respectful society." Obviously, Ford thinks those who do not support homosexual marriage are not "inclusive and respectful". The campaign's top gift of $500,000 came from Allan Gilmour, former vice chairman of Ford Motor Company and was chairman of the Ford Motor Company Fund when gifts to homosexual organizations were made. Go Joe, your entry has nothing to do with the blog entry. at all. go spew your ignorant comments elsewhere.
Anyway - I wonder if there are any places (i.e. regions) left in the world where they dont build cars. Does Africa have something up in South Africa or one of the more developed countries?

BMW builds cars for export at a plant in Roslyn, South Africa. I've seen many 325i sedans assembled there...

Mike,
Thanks for bringing the blog entry back on topic...
I don't know for sure, but I seem to recall that at least VW and Ford build in South Africa. I once had a fascination with the old VW trucks, the ones based on the Rabbit. These are still sold in South Africa (and South American countries too, IIR) but I don't know if they are made in Africa.
I think Peugeot and some of the other Europeans might build in Africa, but not sure.

I love rooting for the small guys and I think it's great that RUF are opening these facilities outside of Germany (I think the other one is in Texas). I had the opportunity to visit their operations in Pfaffenhausen in 2003 and was utterly floored to learn they only had around 35 employees... They gave us a 2 hour tour of their garage and a ride in the RTurbo. It was truly an unforgettable experience.
Anyway, my point is that with the kind of customer service they showed me, and I'm not even a prospective customer, they will do great where ever they set up shop. (Note: I would love to be a prospective customer, but 230,000 for a car is a bit out of my price range for now!)

I wonder how it is that RUF won over AMG in the Mercedes tuner competition?

Cars are built pretty much on every continent except for Antarctica.
I find the site http://www.globalautoindex.com/ really enjoyable to look around. You can search by country and region, or alphabetically.
It's fun to look at the various cars built elsewhere and marvel at the different tastes and styles.

I wonder how many Ignorant Americans would protest to having this car imported here because it's built in a country that may or may not have terrorists and those terrorists may plant bombs in the engines or hide in the trunks of each car waiting to strike.
Stupid people.
Let's then see how many politicians would jump on the bandwagon with them in order to secure votes in an upcoming election.
Watch for it if it ever happens

Congrats Christian on being a completely racist SOB who talks smack without knowing anything. I used to live in Bahrain and it's considerably more advanced that the U.S. (infrastructure-wise) just because everything is funded by the government (and was co-developed with the U.S. since the 5th Fleet and NAVCENTCOM is based there). Stop believing everything you see on Fox News.
"goodforthem" - i would hope that doesn't happen... since Bahrain is the LEAST conservative country and has served as the main base of operations for most military and diplomatic issues that the U.S. tries to resolve in the persian gulf.

Welcome to our straight-F-in-geography student Christian J. Bahrain is one of the richest countries in the world, and as such absolutely not comparable to Iraq, which has been under UN-sanctions or in a war for the last 25 years.
You might want to get out of you little village from time to time to have a look at the world. There are places outside the US that have clean water, electricity, and roads. And some of them are actually pretty nice. Too bad you'll never see them...given your attitude.

klaatu, thanks for the link - i've always wondered what types of cars they make in different places around the world (especially other than Europe and the U.S.). Its funny how even in Canada they have different models (i.e. Acura CSX which is actually a fancy Honda Civic) that they dont produce here...

This article is ridiculous. egypt has been manufacturing cars for atleast 20 years and it is an arab nation. and im not talking about buying cars and sticking differnt badges on them.
plus ruf is just a tuner that works in a traditional german way "emphasize on quality". i still cant c why they would want to open a tuning factory or garage in bahrain. why not in Dubai, where ppl are richer and have leaner laws for foreign companies.
i just dont get it.

Amir -
Ruf is a Manufacturer PLUS a tuner. They have their own VIN numbers. In order for them to do a bit more research and really compete in a larger capacity, a manufacturing plant where customers are is a good idea. The new F1 track is nearby.
At least the first post indicates that our fellow humans aren't all of the same thread. That's ok.
