WhatCar Magazine is reporting that DaimlerChrysler chairman Dieter Zetsche says Mercedes is investigating the feasibility of small production runs of SLR models with different body styles, possibly including a roadster.
Zetsche hinted that production runs of 50 to 100 specialized variants of the SLR could be forthcoming from partner McLaren's Techology Center production line.
WhatCar believes the SLR variants would be in addition to the rumored new McLaren road car, thought to be positioned lower on the supercar scale, opposite Ferrari's F430.

That would be cool save for the fact that SLR feels to the touch about as special as a Corolla.
Driving is undoubtedly another entirely. Still, the cheap bits need to go at the prices DaimlerChrysler demands.

Could they build a McLaren SLR, GEN IV Viper, Firepower, and the ME Four-Twelve onthe same platform to ensure profitability? Only time will tell...Barrrraahhhahahahahahahaa

Does anyone actually care about the SLR?
1) They paid Gordon Murray to design it, then ignored his demands that it be mid-engined.
2) It's not much faster and looks too similar to an SL55/65. (SLR = most phallic car design since the Jag E-Type.)
3) Saying you have a twin-turbo V12 sounds so much better at the country club than a supercharged V8. Mustangs have supercharged V8s.
4) Why not buy an SL55/65 AND an M5 instead, so you have a showoff car, a sports car, and over $100,000 left?
