NASCAR team owner Richard Childress goes vintage
Six-time
Winston/Nextel Cup winner Richard Childress is sitting in the driver's seat of an enterprise not often associated with
NASCAR: a vineyard. Childress and business partner Greg Johns own Childress Vineyards, 65 acres of
wine country in Lexington, North Carolina, just a stone's throw from his racing headquarters in Welcome.
While most don't normally peg the NASCAR crowd as bouquet-sniffing pedants, Childress says that NASCAR's demographics are changing, and that a younger, more affluent audience is beginning to tune in. Perhaps that explains the new Daytona 500 fragrance.
Either way, Childress joins fellow motorsports oenophiles like Mario Andretti in the vintner's circle.

Richard Childress is one of the true nice guys in racing. Before he made big money with Dale Earnhardt he travelled the circuit for the love of racing for many years.
He's the kind of guy you've got to root for. Good luck RC!

FYI - in the title it should say "vintner", not "vintage". Looks like spell check may have gotten the best of you this time.

I've been to the winery myself when I used to work in Lexington, N.C. It's a good place to stop for lunch and a glass of wine if you're ever on the road between Charlotte and Winston-Salem, Greensboro or Raleigh.

EZGowen, thanks for the tip & I will be sure to stop by when i get down that way...I a huge fan of wine.
NASCAR's demographics have been changing quite rapidly over the past 10 years or so. I've been to races in California, NV, Phoenix, NH & MI and have seen fans of all colors and genders, kids, adults, professionals, students...you name it and their coming out to the races!!! Anyway, I think more people know NASCAR is more diverse than it's old image portrays.
