Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion to appear in Geneva
The Geneva Motor Show will play host to Volkswagen's "most economical Polo ever," according to the automaker. The 1.4L diesel engine has its emissions cleaned up by a standard diesel particulate filter and is amazingly fuel-efficient: it uses less than 4 liters of fuel per 100 km.
It will go on sale this summer in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
(Danke for the tip, Christian)

Maybe Zap (the co. that is importing the DC smart to the US) will find a way to federalize the Polo and bring it to the US since VWoA wont.

Amazing that VW hasn't updated the U.S. Golf.
VW has become a boring company with unimpressive, overpriced cars and substandard service.
Why bother with them at all?

America will get fuel efficient cars when politics stops getting involved with the oil business.

#1, we had them in the form of Isuzu's, back in the '80's, and back before the mad rush to build larger and larger SUV's.
Once GM got ahold of Isuzu, their product line went totally south. Yes, a small diesel from Isuzu would have been a great contender for the hybrids out there on the market today (assuming continual refinement, which is something foreign to some American makers).
Truthfully, yes, I'd love one right about now...a rather refined small, rugged, diesel which get's 55-60mpg....and which would run for 300K miles...something which Was quite within reach. Development dollars, however, went elsewhere.

iQuack,
The newly designed Golf V (five) is going to be out this summer in 2 and 4 door models for about $17k. VW Brazil makes good cars that are fun to drive plus they have always had a diesel engine option for a reasonable price (except Toureg$).
A 60mpg Polo diesel would be super!!

It's really hard to design small, econobox cars with any style. This is a home run, no gimmicks, just clean, crisp lines with beautiful curves. This is a tiny vehicle, and many a Kia (90's Spectras), Honda (the Element and Insight), Toyota (first gen Prius), Hyundai (Rio) were cliche disasters at birth. Less is more, and in the case of the baby Polo, a beautiful arrangements of lines and soft curves. The interior looks great too. I like the front end, and wish the grill here would be copied onto the Golf, Passat, and Audi front ends, instead of the gaping black plastic snout they are trying so hard to design a look around. This is so clean and sharp. Thanks for the article!

Andre, the question is: Can we shove this car back UP your ahole? I'm sure we can certainly try!

oops on my post...Hyundai (Rio) s.b. Hyundai (1st gen Accent). The Kia Rio has always been a handsome small car.

You know, that grille is available aftermarket for the Mk4 Golf, (IIRC) the Mk4 Jetta, and the Mk5 Golf/Jetta.

This car will be here in 2008.All VW dealers are screaming for a $12,000. entry level car.For now they will bring a stripped down version of the MK4 called the Golf City,,,until this Polo get's here.VW will build the Honet for DCX in exchange for a Minivan.I'd like to see the Jap car lovers on this post try to shove a Phaeton up their ass.

iQuack, I have seen the new Golf at several local VW dealers, all of the GTI persuasion, though.

So boring. The only thing that speaks for this car is its feul-efficiency. And when it comes to that, I'd rather have the Loremo, that's mentioned elsewhere on Autoblog today.

Hey Andrea, Iam not French. Are You Spanish?I Think you have an ass fedish. It's ok to critisize VW.I find it funny. There are several cars way more ugly aren't there?Doyou thing the Yaris is any better?

I agree with Car-la and yes, the Yaris looks better. This VW design is just a "meet too" look that is boring. This ain't any better than the Civic SI hatchback, and I think the Civic SI hatchback is more sporty looking.
