Today's installment in the ongoing will-they/wont-they saga that is Smart car's U.S. fortunes? Itza Definite Maybe.

According to an interview in German newspaper Handelsblatt, DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche allowed that "It is now more likely that we will decide in favor of, rather than against (entering) the U.S." Simultaneously, however, DCX continues to entertain offers for the company tendered to investment bankers at Goldman Sachs.

Smart hopes to break even in 2006, and final word on the possibility for U.S. sales is expected to be handed down in the coming months.
