Saab Aero-X - new pictures

Some more pictures of the Saab Aero-X concept, courtesy of Swade over at Trollhatten Saab (and originally at Saabscene.)
Fascinating door and cockpit canopy combination. Perhaps this is what Ed Welburn (GM Global Design chief) was talking about when he said Saab design would evoke the car's "jet fighter" roots... Pretty cool, nonetheless. More after the jump.

finally... for a company who's slogan is "born from jets" it's about time they start working on a coupe-ish looking car. they better hurry and bring out some decent coupes in the near future. the aero-x looks pretty hot.

I thought Saab and Subaru don't share products anymore. This looks just like that Subaru concept sports car, make something original saab.

H*LY F*CKING SH*T!
That is the coolest thing I have ever seen. I feel like a 10 yr old who just saw the first Lamborghini Diablo and cut pictures out the newspaper and put them on my wall and raved to my friends about an "0.31 drag coefficient"
OMG, build it! Maybe I can afford one when I pass the Bar in 07

Just a giant retardo gimmick. Gee, real great work, guys. There's no stopping SAAB now. ... .... . ..

Saab, I suggest you partner with a different company cause this is pathetic.

"Born From Jets" - so does Rick Wagoner get the ejection seat?
The lifting canopy is nothing new - GM did something similar with the 1985 Buick Wildcat concept, and same with the 2005 Maserati Birdcage concept. I'm sure there are others.

Is this all you can come up with Saab, this is going to save you? Well, you're downhill was clear when GM bought you.

I LOVE this car! I don't get the negative comments - this is an actual CONCEPT car, something we don't see much of anymore. Everything is so close to production I don't get the same kick I used to when I was young. They will never build it, but it's good to see there is still something of the Saab spirit left.

I must say I am strangely fascinated by the latest trends of SAAB, in terms of design. What I thought, at first, were a bit 'vulgar' cars, actually bring a sense of originality; expecially on market sectors where automotive societies hardly ever run any risks.
As for this concept, I must admit this is not very practical when it's raining, as Mark pointed out.
To look sporty with your vehicle access system and not be a Lamborghini clone, you're pretty much out of dimensions I guess?

Looks like an Aston Martin!! Of course it is not practical, it is a concept car after all. Overall, I like the design direction very much and hope that they incorporate some of it into their production cars.

Is Saab known for sport models like this? I feel like their concept cars should be stylish wagons and hatches that would threaten the positions of Volvo and Subaru.

I agree with that guy, it looks like that yellow Subaru concept i saw last year i think. Nothing special.

Looks fantastic to me. I love the darkened area that comes from under the doors up and across the headlights, which themselves have that cool ice-blue thing going that SAAB's been using recently. As was said, it's a bloody concept car people - it's not meant to be practical, it's meant to be inspiring and imaginative. This may not save SAAB (I don't think that's for a concept car to do) but if they go down in flames this is a pretty cool last addition to their photo album.

Saab,
Tell all the turkeys who wrote bad stuff about you that things will change in a good way. Hopefully, more designs like this will trickel down and you will fly again.

To all the haters, get some grammar and a dictionary if you want people to start taking you seriously.
To the persons commenting on the vehicle looking like a Ford Reflex, or the Saturn Curve, get laser surgery. This vehicle looks nothing like them.
