Smart roadster returns!

Well, the rumor is now reality - DaimlerChrysler has agreed in principle to sell the rights to the Smart roadster to the British 'Project Kimber' consortium headed by David James. James' group has apparently signed a memorandum of understanding with DaimlerChrysler that covers both the rights to produce the roadster and DaimlerChrysler's production equipment for the car.
It's probably fitting that the country that brought us the Spridget should be the new home for this 21st century mini-roadster.

That is GREAT!!! I know that this car has gotten a bad rap because it is not super fast off the line, in the gearbox or anywhere but a freefall, but it is a BLAST to drive. I like it more than the mini for affordable sporty go-cart like cars. I can't wait to someday own one of these cars.

Now can we get it in the US?

If the roadster is half as fun to drive as the original Smart (and I bet it is) I really want one. They are the perfect city cars - small, manueverable, easy to park, frugal on gas, surprisingly safe, and fun.
When is it coming to America?

Quit yanking my US chain. Deliver this or any Smart car to the US market, and then we'll talk.

Wonder how this compares to a Miata pricewise?

I saw a bunch of these over in Germany last year. I LOVE this car. Perhaps now it will be available with more transmission choices, and perhaps someday even make it to US shores. Oh, a young engineer can dream can't he?

I just returned from the Azores and saw many, many of both the original Smart and the roadster. Wow! These little cars look great and they can get around in some really tight spaces. I hope they get to America - my fear is the costly penalty for emissions configurations.
