Porsche launches 911 website
It's a documentary, a
science class, a romance novella and an action film, all in one. The "masterwerk" otherwise known as
Porsche's 911 gets a brand-new website of its very own, featuring full specifications, the car's history, and
in-depth yet accessible descriptions of the advanced technology found lurking underneath its teardrop sheetmetal.
Oh, and don't get us started on the gallery... just make sure to have a roll of Bounty 'round to sop up the
drool.
(Thanks to Tank for the heads-up that the site is live)

Very nice web site; very nice car.
I've always been a fan of the 911 - but a Turbo is simply out of my reach. For that matter, any recent model simply isn't affordable on my dad-with-kids budget.
But I've been keeping my eyes on early 80s non-turbo 911s, which can be surprisingly affordable and (fairly) reasonable to maintain. The mechanically fuel injected 3.0 911 SC models aren't a refined as later years, but are a lot of fun ('78 through '83). The 3.2 Motronic electronically injected model that showed up for '84 jumps up in price, but can approach a reasonable level for a 911 fan on a budget.
Item of trivia: I've noticed that on things like architectural drawings, etc., when they're looking for a car to put in the background, the most common shape I've seen is distinctly a 911...

Too bad the engine is in the wrong place.
Cayman S - yes, 911 - no.

"Too bad the engine is in the wrong place."
That, is a matter of opinion, and your opinion is wrong. ;)

Wow that's all I can say. I own a 1976 911 Turbo and this new car, 30 years later, is amazing. How things have changed but the 911 spirit is still there.

To #1:
Parents bought a '79 911 SC for cheap. It had 89,000 miles on it, but for the past ten years the PO never drove it. My dad and I pulled the engine and checked everythig out ourselves. We found nothing wrong, so we put it back together and changed the fluids.
It's been five years/30,000 miles since and the only thing we've had to do to the 911 was fill up on gas and change the oil. The 3.0 911s are virtually bulletproof and will last forever.

Anyone seen the front of the new Turbo? When you look at the headlights and the new marker lights it looks like a catfish.

This car is 50k more then the Corvette Z06 and does not even compete performance wise. Looks the same as any other 911. Boooooooooring!
