Geneva premiere: Brabus S V12 S Biturbo

German supertuner Brabus has transformed the Mercedes S 600 into what it modestly calls "the world's fastest and most powerful luxury sedan." It doesn't sound like exaggeration, either - the Brabus V12 S Biturbo puts out a stunning 730 hp and a peak torque of 974 foot-pounds through a hard-working 5-speed automatic transmission.
The standard 5.5-liter engine is stroked and bored to 6.3-liters, and gets a full porting treatment, special camshafts and bigger turbochargers. All that engine work pays off with a 0-62 mph time of 4.0 seconds. Pretty damned impressive for a two-ton sedan! Top speed is restricted to a modest 211 mph.
21-inch wheels, monster brakes with 12-piston calipers up front, 6-piston in the rear, an aero body kit, and an uprated suspension complete the picture for the uber-sedan.

OK, the donor car for this operation was $140,000. How much more for the package?
I know, if you have to ask how much, then you can't......

Pretty freaking impressive numbers. I'm guessing the new Mercedes 7-speed Automatic couldn't handle that kind of torque. Is the 5-speed a beefed up Mercedes Unit or from someone else?

Not only this Brabus is beautifull but with 730hp this would make it the best sedan in the world whatever the price can be.

Brabus is a bit of a pointless company. Why does mankind need an S-class that do 0-60 in 4 seconds. If you want a fast car, for that money you can buy a really great sports car. I have to imagine driving a good Porsche 911 Turbo or an equivilant has to be more rewarding that blasting along in a rather mundane looking S-class. I'm probably wrong because does keep making these things, but its just my opinion.

Someone who purchases this I'm sure already has a few Porsche turbo's already.

"peak torque of 974 foot-pounds "
You can't see me right now, but I'm drooling, drooling, drooling.

Mike,
Not sure you are grasping the concept here ... its wretched overkill. Like so many toys, needing it or the sense of the result is not the point. You really have to admire anything with 974 ft-lbs of torque!

Obviously this is a good investment, you pile your clients in the back and then floor it to 200mph and then insists you won't slow down until they sign the contracts.
This will clearly pay itself off in little time for a high rolling land developer.

This Brabus thing is a vulgar corruption of the regular S-Class. Having power is one thing. Packaging it with cheap aftermarket foglights, cheesy aerodynamic garb, and ghetto rims is quite another.
The whole car is gauche.

Gunnar,
It is said that 7 of the 12 Mercedes board members drive Brabus-tuned cars. If Brabus-tuned cars were cheap, cheesy, or ghetto, the board of the donor car's company would not be caught dead in one. The foglights are Bosch OE units, the aerodynamics are not just garb but functional aerodynamics, and the wheels are forged for light weight and styled to match the styling of the vehicle.

Makes perfect business sense to me: If AMG is rolling out twin-turbo cars, then 730bhp is just enough to even justify looking any further. And its worth every penny when you can step past some clown driving an Alpine 760 at 3 am on your way back to Stuttgart from Munich. Hmmm- at $6/gallon (1.2E/liter), and no more than 5mpg at v-max, thats about 5 bucks a minute in SuperPlus fuel. BRILLIANT!

Mr. Flanagan,
If your point is true, it is demonstrative of the sorry state of affairs at DaimlerChrysler.
Functional or not, the aerodynamics of the vehicle are truly garrish.
This street racer look does not befit a marque that once showed some pedigree and reserve (and still managed to sell millions of cars worldwide).

12 piston calipers up front? hot damn thats some quick stopping...which is needed with that two ton behemoth going a god-forsaken 211mph. 12 pistons...

You could have 18 pistons up front and it won't be any better than one if you can't get that grip to the ground.
I agree, the aero kit looks a little childish, and the foglights just look weird. However, I'm sure if it's your money, you can get whatever you want. Note: The standard S-class looks a little childish too.
Obviously, no one NEEDS a 730HP, 211 MPH car. I dare say a Kia Rio will get you where you want to go just as effectively.
So what you REALLY need this for is to keep up with that Bugatti EB16 while hauling your wife and in-laws.

I like the looks of it. I think the point of the Brabus cars is that they are different from the standard cars. If you think the looks are exaggerated, get yourself an AMG car, or the standard version. I'm sure an S600 isn't that low on power, either.

Den in IN,
I can definitely admire the engineering that goes into produces a car and engine with this kind of figures. It is however truly and utterly pointless. A car with that much torque on the rear wheels is insane. You have to have the kind of control only pro drivers have to make any use of that kind of power.
I remember once seeing a Top Gear test of the Mercedes CL 65 AMG which also has over 1000Nm of torque. In a tug of war with 8 grown men, the men won with relative ease. Power is nice. But if you can't deliver it, it just gonna cost you a set of rear tyres even time you pull away. If you want a luxury car buy an S600 or a RR Phantom. If you want performance buy a supercar. Just my humble opinion!

$140,000 is not so cheap. It is approvable for a full option car.
