Spy Shots: 2008 Scion xB
Toyota is set to replace its
“youth-oriented” Scion xB for the 2008 model year and TCC has a spy shot
up of the replacement model’s development mule. From the looks of it the next xB will be larger than the current
model, especially in length. While we can’t glean any details about the design from this mule, we’re expecting the new xB to incorporate styling cues from the Toyota bB already on sale in Japan.

*phew*
At least it's still the worst looking vehicle money can buy.
Had me worried there for a second.

Wow. That looks (somehow) worse than the little boxes currently scurrying about. It looks dead-on a Jeep Cherokee. And apparently they were conducting "curb clearancing" tests when this photo was snapped. Looks like the thing is trying to hide in the bushes.
I'm sure 'yota will sell thousands of these to old retired couples... just who they were targeting with the whole Scion brand, right?

There's something to be said for vehicles which carry a lot of stuff in relation to it's size, purchase price, and fuel economy. I see a lot of Honda Elements in use by small businesses to ferry equipment around, which also being economical enough to be the "comany car".

#1 - if you have money, you can still spend it on an Aztek, so you're technically incorrect.

According to the link, the body is the old one, so looks tell you nothing but that it will be longer. I'd assume the design will be similar to the concept shown recently.

Once a pile of crap, always a pile of crap. People spend good money on this?

I personally have not seen old folk in a Scion although there's got to be one somewhere. A Scion buyer's average age is the youngest compared to customers of other brand names. This is fact. Go look it up.
I believe the oldest average age is that of a Buick owner. But I won't be surprised if it's that of a Corvet owner.

I must be out of sync with most people, because I think the bB is cool looking in a fun, cartoonish kind of way. It looks like a scrappy little bull-dog.

Most will never dig the xB. You gotta drive and sit in it. You would be surprised, how much car you get for the money. Its the best car/wagon to buy for 15 k. You don't even need to haggle at the dealership.
But why does every auto company make a car bigger in every generation? It sucks.

Amazing how "pile of crap" cars keep selling huh?
I don't like the current gen xB, but then next-gen one is kinda cool. Toyota bB is more stylish. That mule looks nothing like the bB, aside from the wheelbase, length. My guess is that shell is nothing like what the actual car will look like. Google Toyota bB and u'll see what the next-gen will look like. xBs and bB always looked nearly identical, it won't be any different this time around.

I like Scions generally, and would consider taking a test drive someday, but not until they put the gauges in their proper place.

Butt ugly, as usual, a low volume Toyota product aimed at the youth market. It's redeming features? It's a great rolling speaker box that gets ok mileage.
Hey to each they're own.

Some months back I drove to the airport in my Honda Element to pick up my visiting parents. In the parking garage I parked to the right of an H2, which was parked to the right of a H1 (Hummer). When I came out of the airport with parents in tow, I saw there was now a Scion parked to the right of me. I looked quite humorous, 4 progressively smaller cars with a boxy body style.

I'm just about through my first month of ownership of my '06 xB and I couldn't be happier. I wanted a vehicle that was fuel efficient, easy on the wallet, has high resale value, and could transport the bigger than normal items if needed. I traded in an '04 Quest and despite being upside down due to crappy resale on the Quest, between payment, insurance and fuel cost, I'll be saving $300+ a month. That's at today's gas prices. Once summer rolls around and fuel prices flirt with $3 again or God forbid another natural disaster such as Katrina occurs, my savings will increase. I went from 20MPG during the normal course of driving to 30MPG so far through the first couple of tanks of gas. xB owners have all stated that the mileage gets better as the car gets closer to 5000 miles. In all honesty, with the uncertainty with gas prices, it was a move I wouldn't hesitate to make again. You'd be surprised how much room is in one of those little boxes. Looks are definitely deceiving!

Big Daddy, how long have you been an internet shill for Toyota? Do you have an office or do you work from home?

OK, that doesnt look like a prototype, it looks like someone just took it and stretched it out and put some black ducttape on it.
it looks like someones project car rather than a protoype. look at the wheel covers, the antenna looks like it has a clothes hanger coming out of it, and from what can be told in this picture, the interior looks like its going to be the same as it was.
I just find this hard to beleive that toyota will take this heap to a production model in less than 18 months. although with the tape on it, it does look a little better than a stock xB
