Another Audi A1

Last time we thought we had a pic of the Audi A1 for you it turned out to be a toy car, so we’re not assuming anything with this one. The German Car Blog has a scan of the German car mag Autobild that shows a sketch of what the Audi A1 could/may/might look like when it will supposedly debut in 2010. The three-door hatch is expected to materialize with VW’s Twincharger engine, as well as a diesel to please the Euro crowd.
The sketch was probably done in-house by Autobild and we have no reason to believe it’s anything more than a best guess, despite how much we’d like to believe Audi is working an entry-level hatch to compete with Volvo’s upcoming C30.

This sketch is way uglier than the toy car. I hope they're planning to do something closer in look to the shooting brake concept.

That car magazine is usually pretty good
but it looks like they were taken in by that
same fake white toy audi. They just changed
the color to make it blue and had a pic
from a different angle.

Oh, come on, the toy car looks nothing like the one pictured above!
As for competing with the C30 - didn't the A3 *define* that class in the first place? why would they create a smaller model in order to undermine the a3? they had the A2 in Europe, which sold but a handful. I don't see them replacing it, despite how good a car it was. Least of all with something in the sub-VW Polo segment. Audi buyers are neither interested in cars of that size, nor of their chosen marque being diminished by competition with Ford Fiestas and Opel Corsas

Well, the Mercedes A-series has shown that there is a market for premium small cars and numerous successful sporty vehicles have shown that there is a market for sporty small cars too. This A1 is apparently planned to be quite different from the A2 which was more of an overpriced(all that aluminium) eco-vehicle than a premium sport-mini. And yes, the A3 is in the same class with the C30, although, like VW's hatches, the A3 is creeping upwards in size. This would be the alternative for the prospective Mini-buyer who is not so keen on looking retro-cutesy.

Walter da Silva's best cars are the ones he designed for Alfa Romeo during the 1990-2000... and they were top sellers in italy...
now he works for the audi/vw/seat group... and he continues to use the same ideas he developed for alfa romeo when designing the cars for his new boss..
take a look to the Alfa Romeo 147 he designed and compare it with the A1 pictured in this post.

He should have a brainwash and start having some new ideas...

What happened to Audi? I thought that they were in the business of producing good looking cars.
