Audi to build a Mini-killer?
Everybody now,
say "awwwww." Okay, so the sources are a little sketchy and the photo makes it look
like somebody made the car out of marshmallows (somebody should check this for photoshopping), but German Car Blog says Audi is going to pit this little jellybean against BMW's MINI
Cooper by 2010. The A1, allegedly a successor to the A2, should MSRP around 15-20,000 Euros. The four-seater will sport
three doors and a diesel or the new twincharger engine.
While it looks a smidge like the
Shooting Brake concept, we're not convinced this one will hit the market, even by the projected date of 2010.

Very cute.
My kids have toys that look just like this when I put the camera down on the sidewalk.

Either that is literally a matchbox-scale model photographed with a long lens, or they use some awful big gravel in that pavement!

Thatīs a toy car alright! Which in no means say that it canīt be a possible version of a real one. Things like that has happened before - the toy version is out before the real mule!

Yup, it's taken with forced perspective. And if Audi were to build a supermini, I'm sure it wouldn't look like that. The C-pillar's all wrong, for a start. At the same time, they're due to replace the A2 over here in Europe any time soon. It never really sold anyway. But they don't have a car built on the Polo or Fox platform. I don't see the point, personally. It'd just diminish their luxury image.

Yes, it's a toy... or those trees in the back ground would be mightier than Redwoods.

I'm convinced. Audi producing a b-segment car is completely plausible. Like the A3 was the first to actually use the latest "Golf" platform, this could very well be the introduction of the next gen "Polo" platform. However, I doubt it's going to look much like this mock-up.

That's not real, it's a micro-machine.
I doubt Audi has any plans to make a car that looks like that. Wheels & tires that big on a car that small make suspension geometry an expensive proposition. Remember they have to consider economy when making economy cars ;)

I don't see this is as a MINI killer. It looks like a car out of a video game(any video game that can't get licensed cars, take your pic). The styling around it just doesn't wow me. The car looks like it was built around a pair of doors.

Just ignore the picture and take this news for what it is: Audi is going to build a b-segment car by 2010.

Looks like a Photoshop-job to me. Look at the direction the shadow of the car fall in, then compare to the shadow of the trees that falls across the ravine to the right of the pic. Totally different directions - oops.

the craftsmanship doesnt look like it came from Audi's studios... it's probably some kinda kit car, or mock up.

I don't think it's Photoshop. It's a real picture of a toy car. As someone else pointed out, the asphalt's size proves it's a toy car. Also, if you zoom in on the picture, the RR tire appears not to completely touch the ground.

Glad to see that plenty of other people recognized this picture to be of a toy. Not a photoshop, just a picture of a little plastic toy taken from an angle to make it look like it might not necessarily be a toy.
