Feast your eyes on the newest member of our Hardtop Convertible Video Collection, the Opel Astra TwinTop. The Astra TwinTop takes the cake when it comes to complexity in design. Note that aside from the fact its retracting hardtop is comprised of three separate, long pieces, the TwinTop’s design also automatically flips the trunk lid up to store the three-piece top and puts in motion the rear deck behind the seats, which has to lift up and out of the roof’s range of motion. God help you if a finger gets caught in one of the Opel Astra TwinTop’s many moving parts, ‘cause you probably ain’t getting it back.

Actually, it looks like the roof is made of five pieces, not three. At the end of the movie as the roof is seen retracting, you can just make out the last of the three big pieces containing the glass rear window separates into three pieces; the glass panel and the two pillars. The two pillars seem to travel on a different trajectory than the centre glass probably to accommodate the armature that makes the whole thing go.

Nice video, but are such a long titles and credits sequence necessary?

Did you notice the ugly black plastic joints between the different parts of the roof? What a wonderful quality! No seriously the volvo is very better!
