Mitsubishi to unveil 2007 Galant Ralliart in Chicago

Mitsubishi released this sketch of its new 2007 Galant Ralliart today, ahead of the car's debut at the Chicago Auto Show February 8.
The new Galant is the latest in Mitsubishi's rollout of the Ralliart performance parts and accessories program, which the company launched at the SEMA Show in November.
Ralliart is the motorsports arm of Mitsubishi, and the new program is the first time its performance and appearance components have been offered in North America. More info on the Mitsubishi Motors North America Ralliart program is available at its dedicated website. Details on the Galant Ralliart will have to await our coverage of the Chicago show.

Consumer Reports Places 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse Last
In its December 2005 issue (the complete report also available to subscribers of http://www.infozine.com/exit.phpurl=http://www.ConsumerReports.org), Consumer reports tested four sports cars - Chevrolet Cobalt SS, Acura RSX, Scion tC, and Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. Eclipse placed dead last. In fact, according to its PR release - Mitsubishi Eclipse finished last among the 10 sporty coupes that have been tested recently by Consumer Reports! (Subaru Impreza WRX STi and the Mazda RX8 were its top-rated picks.)
The following is what Consumer Reports had to say in its press release about Mitsu Eclipse 06:
'The Eclipse shares a platform with the Galant sedan. Its styling suggests a sporty demeanor, but underneath it's rather ordinary. It lacks agility and quickness, two critical ingredients of a sporty car, and it has a cramped, uncomfortable cabin. The coupe's stiff ride doesn't translate into sporty handling. The Eclipse (USD21,764 as tested) comes with a 162-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that provides adequate performance but isn't very sporty. The five-speed manual is clumsy and has long shifter travel.'...

It kind of looks like a Charger, the back of even the current Galant look kind of like a Charger, wonder if it based off of it.

I don't think consumer reports has ever liked the Eclipse, ever. But it has never stopped them from selling.

Disappointing Sales: 06 Eclipse!
Mitsubishi Motors introduced its 2006 Eclipse line with expensive promotion. However consumers are wiser now and not many took the bite. Eclipse's sales volume should be going down over time.

#1 That was the 4cyl model, it doesn't match up as well as the 6cyl does to others. Most mags liked the 6 cyl much better. Get a life loser.

7of7 They were accused of NOT spending enough money to launch the car. Idiot! Get a life!

LATEST: January 20, 2006. 250 Job Cuts because of extremely poor sales.
It was more or less expected. MMA sold just 947 Mitsubishi (Magna) 380 in December 2005 compared to 1620 units it sold in November 2005. The model was launched in the middle of October 2005! It was expecting about 32,000 annual sales or about 2,800 units each month. Officially, the new annual sales target has been revised downwards to 27,000 from the initial 32,000 units. It means about 2,250 units a months, more than twice of what it sold in December 2005. More job cuts to come later?

Sorry to burst you bubble there but unlike GM/Ford, Mitsubishi will survive.
Why? Because they're imported.

Oh, and before I forget, read the article after this one. It's the one titled:
"GM, FORD SALES DROP IN JANUARY"

Well, without a doubt Mitsu will survive just fine, they have always been the underdog so it is not like there sites are set to be the top dog. European sales of Mitsubishi is up pretty good, and Mitsubishi seems to be the only mainstream company with pretty big advancements in 100% electric automobile technology.
Believe it or not the previous generation of the Eclipse sold very very well and on paper was not a flop.

Well for #1's comments about the Consumer Report's article, the URL you provided does not exist. Anyways, the Cobalt SS has TWO advantages over it's rivals... it has the most power and is also the smallest and lightest in the group. It's running on over 170HP while the rest is at 160HP. That's obviously an unfair advantage.
Regardless, if you're going for power/speed/price, the Chevy Cobalt SS and Scion TC top the list. The SS is ugly but slightly faster than the TC. The TC on the other hand has cooler stuff. Rode around in a fren's SS and was not impressed. The TC got me green with envy.

Ralliart stuff has been available on Mitsubishis in Canada for a while. Wheels spoilers, decals, cold air intakes, seats etc.

Mitsubishi performed the worst when it came to number of lemon car complaints per car registration. For example while Mitsubishi and Toyota/Lexus cars had about the same number of reported lemons, less than 2% of the registered cars were Mitsubishis against over 10% for Toyotas. This means on per registered car basis, Mitsubishi cars were 5 times more likely to be complained of being a lemon compared to Toyota/Lexus.
Results broadly classified put Mitsubishi at the bottom. Is Mitsubishi the Yugo of Japan?

From what I understand, Mitsu is a very small automaker. They got too big for their britches in the 90s, and they are now reducing their dealer body, model line, etc. They have the Evo and (in Europe) the Colt, which are two very good vehicles. The Eclipse, in my opinion, is good looking vehicle, and dynamics are not the point of it...
Anyway, with a strong corporate parent, a conscious effort to downsize (unlike GM and Ford, and their downsizing task is much smaller), no legacy costs or unions at their US plants, I think they'll be fine.
My only hope is that they don't dumb down the Evo X to "make it more appealing to a wider audience." The car as it stands is brilliant.

FACT: Mitsubishi Eclipe is the best selling sport compact/coupe of the past 15 years. It makes sense that the bigger you are the harder you fall. Hey the Eclipse is still around, how about the Celica? Hello, Celica, anyone there?

7of7 - regarding #18, I believe that is for the previous generation Eclipse. What do you have against Mitsubishi? It seems like you're just cutting and pasting instead of really discussing.
