Geneva Auto Show world premiere: Mitsubishi Concept-EZ MIEV

Mitsubishi Motors' new Concept-EZ MIEV compact concept vehicle gets its world premiere at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show in March, alongside the new Pininfarina-designed Colt CZC coupe-cabriolet.
We showed you the Colt earlier this month, but this sketch is the first we've seen of the new mono-box concept vehicle. The Concept-EZ is another of Mitsubishi's next-generation electric vehicle concepts, using the MIEV in-wheel motor design to replace a more traditional central powertrain.
The concept car uses a 20kW outer rotor-type motor in each wheel, powered by a lithium-ion battery system. The "EZ" moniker refers to the easy-to-use, flat-floor design of the vehicle's interior, made possible by the in-wheel powertrain.

Why they are spending the time on this and the one at the Detroit show is beyond me. Get the Evo X and Sportback to market and redesign the Galant. I could see this from a company like Toyota that has the cash but not Mitsu.

This is a very nice monobox design with a lot of very clever touches. The windshield shape and cut lines are nice, as is the roof treatment. The face is strong as well. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the real thing.

I think Mitsu has to do this.. because hybrids will bring in well heeled, educated customers which they are sorely lacking right now. It will also remind people of the days when Mitsubishi was known for high technology. Every time I walk into a Mitsu dealership (I drive an Evo) I am treated like uneducated dirt. If the car was not so good I would have just turned around and said no thanks.
Even now I do all my own maintenance because the current Mitsu dealer employees are the lowest common denominator. By now, if you are a mitsu dealer employee, it's because you couldn't get a better job, because there's no reason to stick around.

Brake Booster Recall on 2006 Eclipse - CRASH Possibility
'CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN FITTED WITH A DEFECTIVE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY... THE BOOSTER BODY COULD SEPARATE DUE TO IMPROPER CRIMP JOINTS, RESULTING IN A TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.'

I hate vans. This one looks a lil different for the better. If the front was a slight bit pointier, it would be nicer.
And 7of7, Mitsu has had their share of problems but where are your sources. Please remember to mark that down before you post numbers and alleged facts... and don't spam.

I know a lot of people here don't care for EV cars, but I for one am glad that a decent size company is heading toward that direction.
All the hate and prejudices aside, I think people miss the reason why Mitsubishi pushes for this technology. As gas prices goes up, the interests in EV will increase. I've always wanted an EV, but can never afford one as a kid. Now I'm at a point in my life that I can pay a little more for a car, and I am quite willing to buy my first EV from Mitsubishi.
I think Mitsubishi is onto something, and I hope they'll make EVs available here in the US. But chances are, if the oil price spike too soon, the Japanese market will snap it all up.

For a company that's been through a bucketload of financial s**t in the past year, it's great to see they're adding to technology advances in the slow-moving automotive world. The losers who are bagging the looks can go out and buy their gas-guzzling Yank-Tanks, I for one am looking forward to a car that doesn't rely on sending funds to Terrorist-linked countries.
