The marriage between Daimler-Benz and Chrysler is about to get more beneficial, said new DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche. Among the ways in which the two divisions will work more closely are in the areas of engines and transmissions, assembly processes, and purchasing.

The M-Class and the Jeep Grand Cherokee may be among the first test cases of DCX's new ways to share. While the two won't be made from the same platform (no badge engineering here, officials say), some of the technology and systems will be shared. And lest anyone make the mistake of thinking this marriage is not balanced, let it be known that while Mercedes brings much in the way of engineering and advanced technology, Chrysler brings just as much to the table in terms of production efficiency.
