With only one race under its belt, that of the class-winning performance at the 2005 ALMS season closer at Laguna Seca, the Penske Racing Porsche RS Spyder picked up where it left off, posting the fastest time in the first day of the ALMS Sebring winter test session.

But wait, there's more... (after the jump) After running only 12 laps, Lucas Luhr's fastest time in the Spyder was 1:49.93 - only 0.1 seconds slower than the fastest qualifier at the 2005 Sebring 12 hours, JJ Lehto in the Audi R8 LMP1. I think there's little doubt that the LMP2 Porsche will be contesting for overall race wins this year, and what a great David-vs-Goliath marketing story for Porsche that would be!

In other LMP2 news, Dyson Racing debuted the brand-new Lola B06/10-AER. Like the Audi R10s, the Lola is in the early shakedown and familiarization stage - we can expect the lap times for both to fall quickly.

A few photos follow, courtesy of the ALMS. Lots more photos and info at their website.
