After the release of photos showing other candidates for what became GM’s Camaro Concept, Autoblog readers have
voted in our informal poll that company indeed debuted its best effort.
When asked if GM debuted the right
Camaro Concept, 64-percent of you voted “Absolutely”, while 36-percent voted “Absolutely Not”.
A total of 2,833 people voted over the course of about three days.

The real ballots will be cast
sometime around 2009 when (and if) a new Camaro officially debuts that’s based on this concept car. GM and
Chevrolet will be campaigning heavily for dollars in your state, regardless of whether it’s a red or blue one.

GM picked one very hot design on the new Camaro but waiting till 2009 to release it would be a very bad decision. I'm definitely serious now on purchasing this new Camaro in the next year or 2 but waiting till 2009 could change my opinion on this car drastically. There will most likely be hotter cars out by that time. GM just needs to run with a great design as quickly as they can while the feeling is hot, not waiting till it cools down years later.

The car looks good but GM could have made it more retro like the mustang and challenger concept. All and all good job, hope GM scraps the GTO and brings back the TRANS AM.

Thumbs up to GM on this concept. If only they can stay relatively close to it with the production version. I also hope that they have give it an independent rear suspension, so that it has a leg up on the Mustang.
Most of the exterior design work is excellent. But I have some qualms about the rear end treatment, as it's very boring. The interior is unacceptable by contemporary car standards. It's ugly, and very dated (there's a big difference between being retro-inspired and just going totally retro). The dashboard is much too large and prominent (something I did not like about the last generation of Firebird and Camaro, either).

Needs to be more like the 60's model front end, this one looks feminine. The rear quarter panels shouldn't be so square, looks alot like the Corvette rear. They should be more round. Last but not least the over all size of the car is way to much. I hope Chevy decides to make a few changes or Ford might gain control over more of the market.

I grew up an avid Chevy Man, but I must say the Challenger is the one that catches my eye. It really captures the essence of the original, not to mention the era, much better than the Camaro. It's the one I want in the 3rd bay of my garage.

I'm not a muscle car guy, but I have to say this concept is really nice. The only reason I can see GM waiting 'till '09 to produce would be to create higher demand. '09 is a bit much, though. They should realize seething semand can sour into resentment and deliver a pretty harsh backlash if people are kept on the hook too long.
I don't think they should scrap the GTO, It's a great car.
I unfortunately don't think this concept will get independent rear suspension for the same reason the 'stang didn't -- Americans like to drag race and live axles lend themselves better to straight-line driving. Frustrating for of us autocrossing and road racing, but the market gets what the companies think it wants.

The new camaro concept should come out sooner than 2009 scrap something else to make room for it.There are millions of baby boomers out there thet could not get the 68 or 69s now is thier time to buy something really cool.Although I couldnt afford one right now Hats off to GM

I agree with Von K. 2009 IS...a bit much. Although I think GM did a great job with the Camaro Concept, with the muscle and style, but it should be out on the streets already. After all, it's "been there, done that!" with the idea. Dodge with the Charger, and Ford with their Mustang. Both, very fine jobs with capturing the era and style that so many of us remember and miss. But GM seems to be lagging a bit. And let's face it, by 09 it'll be a Hybrid.

I love this concept. It almost reminds me of the Batmobile! Who wouldn't want their own personal batmobile! :p I can't wait to buy this car the second it comes out... but 2009... that seems way too long of a wait for such a nice car as this. I think GM should think about releasing it much sooner... maybe in the next year or two rather than wait until 2009. They can always release a 2009 version of this car that is new an improved and all so it doesn't make sense to wait that long.

excellent looking car,GM should maybe ,make the car look a little more like the all time favorite 67 RS ..
Being born in the late 70' one can only dream of owning the all famous Camaros, Chalengers, Chargers, Mustangs, But If they bring back the era trough new vehicules , That would be perfect.

I love it. A bit retro, but enough of a modern interpretation to be relevant for today. The fact it is based on the Australian Holden Commodore (Pontiac G8) which even in the Ute gets independent rear suspension would surprise me if it got the live rear. But the U.S. market will dictate what it ends up with at the back. I don't think it is feminine at all. It looks muscular but not overdone like some other vehicles these days. The fact that the concept is basically what the finished product will be like is double edged. It shows the car people will definitely buy but the launch date seems a bit long from concept for such a modern vehicle. No doubt it will be hit but by the time it is on the market it will feel like it has been around far longer. Hope we get it in Right hand drive though for Oz!
