Google Pontiac?
The sacred cow of Google might not be
so sacred anymore. According to Autoblog reader Karl, GM is running ads encouraging people to "Google
Pontiac." GM head of marketing Mark LaNeve says, "We're touting Google,
frankly, because it stands for credibility and consumer empowerment, and we like the association."
And BusinessWeek says that Google likes it that way. The AdWords crew at Google love ad placement because it means that companies that would benefit from folks Googling Pontiac will now, even more than before, want a piece of the pie.
Here's a question for our faithful readers: is there anything sacred in advertising anymore? Or is this actually an ingenious way to get people to build a Torrent online?

After seeing this ad, I assumed a Google search for Pontiac would turn up rave reviews from respected consumer organizations and car magazines. No such luck.
I guess they just wanted to generate buzz about their new ad campaign and product line, which they succeeded at (to some extent).
This commercial really does demonstrate that Google is now officially a verb and synonym for search.

That word...I donno think it means what you think it means.
There is nothing "sacred" about Google, Pontiac, or anybody who's ever worked in the advertising business.

I certainly enjoy the fact that when you do Google "Pontiac", you receive a nice MX5 Miata ad on the sidebar touting the MX5 over the Solstice in their own "Edmundsesque" way...

Uh, miserable failure, anyone? Could be ugly if Pontiac or GM gets Googlebombed.
