Another brilliant TV ad from Honda U.K.
Posted Jan 22nd 2006 7:00PM by Stuart Waterman

Autoblog reader Eric turned us on to
this fantastic video of a Honda U.K. TV
commercial for the new Honda Civic. (Honda U.K. are also the folks who commissioned the famous "Rube Goldberg"
commercial for the Accord a few years ago.) Without giving away the show, suffice it to say that the vocal group shown
at right give Bobby McFerrin a run for his money.
The Honda U.K. website for the Civic (all flash - you've
been warned!) has links to the commercial video as well as a link to a video about the making of the commercial.
(Follow the "Watch" link on the Civic site.) Both are available as podcasts!
Enjoy!

That is fantastic.. better than the Honda Wagon commercia from a couple years back.

While that was very cool, the tag line is funny for a different reason: Nobody dreams about Hondas... :-)

This commercial is very good...The vocal group is just too good.!!

Finally an ad agency that trully earned their money. The Wagon cog commercial was better (IMO) but this one is great. If only all advertising was this creative.
On a side note, please let us get that version (hatchback) of the Civic in the U.S. as the rumored CRX return.

Proves that ad after ad for year after year, there's always an opportunity to be creative. BRAVO!
Tyson @ Jan 22nd 2006 11:24PM
no, lets not get that version. its ugly. it tells you something when an ad barely shows the actual cars exterior.
Nick @ Jan 22nd 2006 11:30PM
I think it's lost in translation somewhere. It drags on and on and on. Does not do much for me.

The concept was interesting and the vocal group was great, but the ad bored me. It wasn't that good in my opinion.

Pretty cool ad, but more for the vocal group than anything related to the Civic. Chalk two up for Honda. You kind of forget about the car itself other than to wonder what the next sound environment is going to be.
First thing that came to mind -
"Let's hear now an example of correct microphone placing"..."Now, presumably for something like that you'd be using a very large number of microphones."

I agree; it was good for the first 30 seconds or so, but after that got boring quickly.

The recent UK advert for Honda as a whole was much better than that one. Click on "Watch the Ad" at the following link to see it:

The UK Civic is loads better than the American model, I mean the new Civic is ugly period. But I think the US civic is still a lot uglier with its bubbly headlights and abruptly notched rear. The interior is also a lot more refined, suspension is tighter, engine choices offer much more efficient diesels. It has got the torque, highway efficiency, and handling that a Prius can't match at all.
Don't ever believe that hybrid is more efficient than a diesel, I regularly go from PA to SC on one tank driving at 70 mph on I-95 in a 2003 VW Jetta, that's 600 miles with a 2 gallon margin.

#2, Honda claims the power of dreams because dreams are what lead to innovation, which leads to the technology that will be in my honda in 2008, which is also the technology that will be in your car in 2013.
No one said that you should be dreaming of owning a Civic, but hey, nice try. I know you wouldn't have anything to talk about if you weren't putting words in others' mouths in order to have something to complain about. Hater.

Sounds like you have serious insecurity issues with your Honda, that you get so bent out of shape over a joke and start name-calling. Honda makes boring cars. That's not hate, it's fact. It's not necessarily bad either. People want reliable, boring toasters too. What Proctor-Silex does for toasters, Honda does for cars. Take a pill and relax your sphincter a little.

Well, EXCUUZZZZ me for pointing out the fact that your post is factually wrong and entirely irrelevant. I don't need a pill so much as you need a Critical Thinking 101 class.
By the way, there's nothing "boring" or "toaster-class utility" about an S2000, NSX, or Si. Or a CBR1000RR. You want boring, try Toyota, GM, or VW. So get back to your hating, and have a nice day.
PS it's not name-calling when it's true. Hater.
