Opel to launch the new GT in Geneva
Autoblog tipster Luca and our pals over at Autoblog Spanish tell us that Opel will launch a new roadster, reviving the classic Opel GT name. More ikely than not, the GT will be based on the Pontiac Solstice, which is also the basis for the Saturn Sky roadster. Based on this teaser photo from Opel, it looks like Solstice dimensions to us.

Actually, the way that cover drapes over the shape - I seem to be able to make out Saturn Sky shaped tail-lights, at least.
My guess is that the Opel GT will share more sheetmetal with the SKY than the Solstice, especially in light of Saturn and Opel's close relationship on new products.

I thought the Sky was based on an Opel product - are we going in cirlces here? Could be wrong. Have been before, will be again.

The Opel GT will be a identical twin of the Saturn Sky, which is just a reskinned Pontiac Solstice. Also, expect all future Saturns and Opels to share the same design language.
This will actually be an American Export to Europe.

Holy crap, an American export? I thought "free trade" meant everyone just sold their stuff here.

Having exported six Opel GT's from Colorado to the U.K., as well as owning four others at different times, I am still obsessed with this 'Corvette that got left out in the Rain'. There is no middle ground with GT's, folks either love 'em or hate 'em.
I've hoped for the Opel GT's return for decades, but while the new ( speedster ) version looks decent, I think that it's going to be an Opel GT in name only.
I would urge GM to instead do an updated version of the GT, as was done with the ( very ) well received Camaro. However, this time, give it more HP and have a cabrio version in addition.

Strange - I heard this would not come to Europe as it would not pass our pedestrian impact standards. If this does indeed come to Europe, would it be available in RHD?
I really hope that Opel don't use the good name of the Speedster to market a half assed GT car - the Speedster (VX220 in the UK) is a stunning car, the turbo VXR UK version has 230bhp and 0-60 in around 4.5 seconds. This GT will not be anywhere near that.

I've seen the European magazine form imposition of the Solstice on the cloaked car but has anyone else noticed the differences? Look at the front [lines] of the cloaked car. Looks like the 70s' GT lines. A little different than the SKY wouldn't you say. Then there's the back? Looks like some elaboration of the Speedster or Elise. Check the picture on http://www.opelclub.com
Someones theoretical creation or an actual Picture??
