Chrysler targeting improved efficiency

Chrysler is aiming to catch up with Asian manufactuerers in efficiency. Currently producing vehicles at a rate of one car in 35.85 hours, the company is aiming to drop this number below 30, which would place it competitively between Honda (32.02 hours), Nissan (29.43), and Toyota (27.9). CEO Tom LaSorda says that the company is already retooling manufacturing plants for production flexibility in order to meet the goal.

Considering that Chrysler has already improved its efficiency by 4.2 percent in 2005 and is expected to be in the high 5 percentage range for improvement in 2006, LaSorda sees no reason why the company won't meet the goal.
