Prodrive P2 supercar debuts this weekend, won't be produced

David Richards’ firm Prodrive will finally unveil its P2 sports car this weekend at the Autosport International Racing Car Show in Birmingham, England. The P2 is based on Subaru mechanicals and features an Impreza engine that’s been cajoled to produce 345 bhp. That motor is enough to launch to P2 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 174 mph.
Sounds fun, right? Unfortunately not even the uber-rich among us will be able to buy the P2, as Richards tells Autocar the car was produced to showcase the firm’s engineering abilities, as well as prove to his team of engineers and designers what can be done when they put their collective heads together.
Bunch more pics after the jump

Does it have a JATO pack sticking out of the trunk, too?

We talking about a car or a fighter jet? 174.5 mph maybe?
Gotta watch those decimals!

Dave Richards is a clever man, but even he'd be struggling to get it up to that speed.
Good looking car though. Horsepower wise it's less than I expected. But the weight savings must help a lot.

As a Subaru fan, its sad this won't go into production. Hopefully this car does a tour of the US.

Is this car mid or front engined? From the engine shot It looks front engined, but then all the air intakes on the side and rear leave me wondering... which is it?

As a Subaru STI owner I was hoping they would really produce this car.

It looks like a cross between the Toyota MR2(look at the door vents) and a Lotus Elise(rear end). I like it though. It looks not too expensive. I would drive one. Needs a little streamlining on the outside, but a nice car overall.

Maybe that extra power to get up to 1745mph is channeled to generate the 1.81 gigawatts of energy at 88mph to... well... nevermind... :)

Looks like it's front-engined to me. But I wonder where the intercooler is located? It could be front-mounted and just not really visible behind the grill area. Or perhaps it is tucked away in the rear of the car, thus the air scoops on both sides of the car to feed it cool air.

Wow - that's mach 2.3 with 345 hp! It must be a lot more aerodynamic than it looks!

Some engineering firms (Lotus) can design nice-looking cars. Some can't. This is a huge mess, even if it is record-breakingly fast and such.

Okay - I did the math: it must have a drag coefficient of about 3.49*10^-7 (0.000000349).
By contrast, its apparent cousin, the Subaru Impreza, has a Cd of about 0.33.
