UPDATE: Infiniti Coupe Concept - official photos and press release

Nissan has released its photos and press release for the Infiniti Coupe concept that we reported on Sunday. With a number of features that are becoming de rigeur for any self-respecting concept car (glass roof, 20-inch wheels), the concept car seems to out eyes to be a relatively conservative expression of current Infiniti designs, albeit with some very nice details. More pictures and the official press release after the jump.

Press Release:
Infiniti Debuts Coupe Concept at 2006 North American International Auto Show [Jan. 8, 06]
DETROIT (Jan 8, 2006) – Infiniti today unveiled a dramatic new concept vehicle, the Infiniti Coupe Concept, at the 2006 North American International Auto Show. Infiniti also showed the new 2006 FX luxury crossover SUV, which has been refined with exterior and interior enhancements and greater differentiation between the V8-powered FX45 and V6-equipped FX35 models.
The Coupe Concept continues the Infiniti tradition of merging design and performance. It takes Infiniti’s vibrant design vocabulary, which has helped establish Infiniti as one of the most dynamic brands in the luxury market, and elevates it to the next level.
Among the Coupe Concept’s exterior design features are a full-length glass panel roof, modulated front fenders and hood, deep front spoiler and large projector headlights, polished bare metal-look paint, compact camera outside rearview mirrors, hidden door handles and large 20-inch, 9-spoke painted aluminum-alloy wheels.
The Coupe Concept interior combines a performance-inspired cockpit with a luxurious passengers’ space featuring a “double wave” instrument panel design, with large, violet-color gauge illumination and a dramatic, full-length center console. Specially textured aluminum accents project the image of traditional Japanese “Washi” paper, providing an added sense of warmth and crispness.
“The Infiniti Coupe Concept embraces the continuous advancement of Infiniti design with a unique combination of passion, imagination and creativity,” said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti.
Igo also provided an update on Infiniti business issues, including the fourth straight year of sales records. In 2005, Infiniti sold an all-time high of 136,401 units, an increase of 4.5 percent over calendar year 2004 sales.
“Infiniti sales have been strong across the entire model range,” said Igo. “We’re especially pleased with the acceptance in the marketplace of the all-new 2006 Infiniti M.”

re Josh, post 18...you're blind. The current G35 has ZERO character lines on the sides. The sides are flat, like slabs. There's a touch of swell at the wheels but the car was aching for some character on the sides. Thankfully, Nissan's designers realized they could make the G35 coupe better with some edges.
Hopefully they'll fix the snap oversteer problem in the FM platform (some say the limited AWS system helps correct this). Doing away with the stupid shift light on the manuals would be nice too. Which ever nissan boob thought up the shift light needs a good beating. finally, god willing, they tightened up that sloppy six speed and did away with all the NVH from the 3.5.

The extreior lines are magnificent. The interior is a little bland. Rims are ok. What happened to wood in luxury cars?

Yeah, if people are calling it safe, then I want to be safe, because this really is a beautiful car. Granted though, I don't know what they were thinking with the mirrors, they are uglier than anything I've ever seen before. They really should make this car in a V-8 and maybe release a little more details about the car, like specs on the audio and whether it would have a navigation system and stuff.

They should also add some fog lights to the front to jazz it up some more.

Although the concept is not a display of an extreme radical next generation that some were hoping for, at least this concept seems to be realistic of what we will expect to see in 07. I prefer this than see concepts that will never end up on the road. The concept is an admirable tribute and style continuity from the day the G35 was first introduced. An emotional look at going from good to great! Bravo - Infiniti for a job well done. From a very satisfied G35 Coupe owner.

I hope this isn't the next g35. looks more like a midcycle refreshning than a new design. Infinity needs to get more creative and give us a g35 we haven't allready seen.

I'm happy they didn't feel the need to revision what is already fundamentally a fine, fun car. I love what Infinity's done by imaginatively redefining it in beautiful detail. Highly attractive.

Probably is the next G35, in the New York Times last week the CEO of Nissan said the new G35 will be released this September

Those that wish to hate, please people let them. I mean someone has to purchase those other, non-expressive, cars from those low-rent Automakers. Nissan/Infiniti's designs are second to none, and pared with the fact that they have some of the most reliable units on the road. Please folks, you can hate on them. This G35 is the one I've been longing for and it will hold us over until the SKYLINE comes. Oh, and Automakers beware, because when the SKYLINE comes bow down everything else.

Infiniti seems to bringing the coupe up to speed with styling/technology of the FX. Obviously, this car is far from being simply 'refreshed'.The styling is elegant and understated and this car will certainly provide more bang for your dollar v.s. BMW or comparable coupes. The old G was extremely nice but interior is quite dated compared to other vehicles in Infiniti line-up. This concept is gorgeous...bring it on.
