Ferrari 599GTB - Official photos and specs

As we reported earlier today in our coverage of Ferrari's press conference, the new Ferrari slated to replace the 575M Maranello will be called the 599 GTB, and not the F600 Imola as previously rumored. The latest in the famous line of Grand Touring Berlinettas, the 599 is named after the 5,999 cc V12 engine, which it inherits from the Ferrari Enzo supercar. With 620 hp available to motivate the two-seater coupe, performance should be more than adequate.
Penned by Pininfarina, the 599 GTB is reminiscent of the 612 Scaglietti, and owes much to Pininfarina's Ferrari Rossa concept.

Official Press Release:
Ferrari 599 GTB
Maranello, 9th January 2006 - With the release of the 599 GTB Ferrari is presenting its most powerful V12-engined production car of all time.
Amedeo Felisa, Ferrari's Vice General Manager will announce today at the Detroit Motor Show the birth of the latest model developed in Maranello.
The new car is a concentration of Ferrari's most innovative and technologically advanced engineering solutions applied to a mid-front engined two-seater coupé. The result is a new benchmark for performance, driver involvement and design.
The Ferrari 599 GTB boasts class-leading power thanks to its 5,999cc V12 - derived directly from the Enzo Ferrari supercar - which produces no less than 620hp at 7,600 rpm for a weight/power ratio of just 2.6 kg per horsepower.
Ferrari has adopted the latest evolution in its tried and tested all-aluminium construction technology for the body and chassis.
The unmistakable Pininfarina design gives the Ferrari 559 GTB aggressive yet elegant lines which are perfectly integrated with the advanced aerodynamic solutions adopted to reach the performance figures attainable.
This new model is the symbol of Ferrari's production - the V12 berlinetta - and represents the latest interpretation of a theme that has seen such classics as the 250 GT, the 275 GTB, and the 365 GTB4.
The Ferrari 599 GTB replaces the last in that great line of berlinettas, the 575M Maranello, of which - together with the 550 Maranello introduced in 1996 - no fewer than 5,700 have been produced, a record for this type of model for the Prancing Horse.
The new car will be officially unveiled on the 28th of February 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show.

I say it every time Ferrari launches a new car, but this is the most gorgeous car I've ever seen.

Maybe the new design will grow on me but if I had to choose (and had boatloads of cash), I'd rather have a 575M. Actually make that a SuperAmerica (or even a 550 Barchetta..oooo). I think I even prefer the 612 Scaglietti over this one. There's something about the 599's rear end and raked accent line running down the side that I just don't like.

Nice rims. Now we know old Enzo sold his soul to the devil to make the most beautiful as desirable cars on the planet. You know they say the devil is "a man of wealth and taste..."

I gotta say, I still think these pictures look fake. If you blow them up in photoshop, there's all kinds of evidence. Fuzzy edges around the roofline, a broken trunk seam (apparently lifted from a picture of a 456 GT), the strange rear quarter window in the front 3/4 view, and the b-pillar in the same picture that is really fuzzy and obviously drawn on.
The real thing may look like this, but these pics are heavily doctored either way.
Just my 2 cents..

Sorry, folks, but this is the first time Pinin's copied the Corvette.

#6 charmingDeviant,
These are low resolution highly compressed JPEGs. If you blow any highly compressed JPEG in Photoshop you will see jagged edges and broken lines. That's just the nature of the JPEG. If you saw higher resolution images, you'd see that they aren't really cobbled together. The only way these were doctored was in that they are silhouetted and placed on the same background, which is completely out of perspective, which in itself is pretty unprofessional.
I'd also like to state that the rear window is almost *gasp* French in design. It's almost a reverse of the Citro?C6 with such a drastic convex curve. Kind of looks like the windshield of the Enzo. Hey wait a minute...

Ok, I'll do the math 2.6kg to hp - so 620 * 2.6 = 1612kg * 2.2 lb/kg = 3546lbs. That's much better than the 575. It's still a bit portly, but getting better Ferrari. Audi and Ferrari make the heaviest light cars ever.

I can't believe that the 599 doesn't have the twin clusters for the rear lights! Heresy!

Incredible. The only thing I might reccomend to ferrari is to lose the pentagram rims.

I too did not like the car when I first looked at it. The front end was ok, but I wasn't crazy about the back (2 versus the 575's quad tailamps) with the overall shape seeming to lack the grace and sensuous curves of the 575. while I still think the 575 is prettier, I do appreciate the more aggressive look and stance. I especially like the look of the rear fender and rooflines when looking from the front. As for the back, a quick look to Ferrari history reminded me that quad tail lights are a relatively recent styling touch, and that such classics as the 275 GTB had two tailights. It's funny how a little thing like that can make the difference between it looking like a Lexus SC430 and a Ferrari. I do like the wheels, and as for looking like a Corvette, give me a break. The Vette's nose was a bad rip off of a 360 Modena (follow up to the NSX-xerox C5).

Why not just call it the Ferrari 350Z?

Another gold medal for italian top design. Somebody compering a Ferrari to Corvette or Nissan 350Z,you guys are funny. Ferrari's has a unique design, other car makers can just keep trying to copy Ferrari's design or the design of other European car makers.

Anyone that thinks that the gm futule atemped of a sports car belongs in the same page as the ferrari has never driven or owned a ferrari. Once you own and drive a ferrari you will know that there is nothing in this world that compares.
