2007 Jeep Wrangler: live shots

Just got back from the Jeep press conference, and as always the Chrysler Groupe entertained. To start off the show Tom LaSorda, who now heads up Chrysler, drove the new 2007 Jeep Wrangler through the glass front doors of Cobo Hall. Across the street from the show the new Jeep traversed a few public steps and climbed an artificial mountain. Impressive showmanship, for sure.
(There's screaming going on around me, I think they just unveiled the Camaro concept somewhere around here, which Chris should be attending).
Anyway, we gave you enough official shots and specs of the Jeep here, so here are some lives ones.

Jeep again broke glass with a new model, just like at the debut of the redesigned Grand Cherokee in the Nineties.

The one that started it all.

Wrangler's are now available with power windows and door locks on their detachable doors.

The WWII model looks better and has better ground clearance under the frame and body. The rear lower shock mounts are too low on the 2007.

Good to see that they went with an evolutionary and not revolutionary desgin change on this one.

Are power mirrors an option now in addition to the windows and locks? The lack of power mirrors is the only thing I don't like about my '03 Rubicon. They could have solved the problem by mounting the mirrors on the body just in front of the doors, which would provide a routing for electrical as well as reducing the weight of the doors.

One thing I notice is the increased size of the new Wrangler, which I believe is 5" all the way around. Because of its smaller size, the current TJ may be more nimble in certain off-road conditions. As for on-road, I imagine that this new model will be much nicer in terms of comfort and handling, however.

Very pleased with the exterior and multiple top configurations. www.mph.com shows even more. Only gripe is the center stack is not as well designed as the first generation PT Cruiser's and looks rather plain. Will the four door be a full convertible? Make mine black.

Will this have a center differential? The wrangler has not had four wheel drive for over a decade (stopped couting), it has off road drive-locking the rear driveshaft to the front=no ability to turn!

How are the power windows going to work with the removable doors? Won't there be wires hanging out all over the place? Anyone know?
